Rubber Band Gatling Gun

Posted August 12, 2012 2:55 PM

From Neatorama:

The guy in this video has created the ultimate non-lethal squirrel deterrant- a rubber band gatling gun that fires 200 rounds with the crank of a wooden handle.Reloading looks like a huge pain in the neck, but I doubt any invading critters are going to stick around after seeing this thing let loose!

Do you suppose this can be produced with a 3D printer?

Personally I like using the Caddy Shack method. (C4 and remote detonators.)

I think of it as a three for one. No more squirrels, I don't have to mow the lawn afterwords, and the neighbors don't come over and borrow my stuff any more either.

I could have really used that back in junior high............it would have been well worth the trip to the principals office.

These aren't new. I had one in school in the early 80's. Mine looked more like a gatling gun tho....

Agree, nothing new.

While I was at the age when things like this are important my dad fabricated for me a wooden rubber band machine gun pistol, about a dozen or so shots I guess.

I seem to remember him expressing some regret about having done that...

In high school we built rifles that shot bands made of surgical tubing with about 10 ball bearings squeezed into the tubing equally around the circumfrence. They were quiet and great for small game.

Agreed, this is nothing new. We were building these back in Middle School some 40+ years ago!

Also, we perfected a rubber band powered gattling gun that spewed out half pieces of heavy duty paper clips.....

Yeah "Ouch" is the touch word alright! I wouldn't ever consider bringing it into school lest I end up in the Principal's Chit Sandwich, followed by suspension!

Amazing what destructive creativity we evil teenagers dreamed up back then! I'm surprised that I didn't end up in Federal Prison with the chit storm we created every time we put our devious minds to the task of building WMD's and IED's, or blowing things up! It's no wonder I ended up as an US Army Combat Engineer! LOL

Hey, it was very effective firing upon the squirrels raiding mom's bird feeder! Rarely did they come back....the chipmunks on the other hand were too stupid not to learn their lessons the first time around (if they survived the gauntlet of paperclips!)......then there was always a fall back to the Crossman air rifle if they were out of range for the paper-clip Gatling gun!
