How It's Made: Switch's Liquid-Filled Light Bulbs

Posted September 29, 2012 4:26 PM

From ExtremeTech:

As you might have guessed, the liquid-filled light bulb you see above is quite different from the average lamp. Made by Switch Lighting, they are filled with liquid silicone, have a clever compensation piston inside that deals with internal pressure, and the LQD cooling system is able to handle a serious about of heat, enough to produce 1600 lumens (that's 100W equivalent) from up to 12 LEDs.

I think that I know how they got the idea! As silicone transmits light well, holding a torch to a Silicone filled mammary gland causes them to light up like neon displays.

Here is the only picture I could find on the internet (purely in the name of science!) demonstrating how silicone transmits light. From a How its made website.

Seen it demonstrated on British TV many years ago by a Transvestite, this could be her/him/it......UGH!!!

CR4 ADMIN: Deleted Image

Inappropriate Image: This post was deleted because it included an inappropriate image that violates theCR4 Rules of Conduct.

I bet someone from the US gets the picture removed...I remember how poor Janet Jackson was treated for her tiny fun "faux pas".

These objects get shoved in babies mouths at a very early age Guys, (maybe ones without Silicone). Therefore they are (mostly) made by nature and are completely natural!!!

LOL!!!!

If anyone would like a copy of the deleted image, send me a CR4 email with a non CR4 email address.

I was certain that someone from the US would get the image deleted as many have still not understood that breasts are designed to feed babies, not just to "feed" sexual fantasies....Boobs are only sexual organs for people with a "simple" take on such things......

That happening with Janet Jackson some years ago (as I previously mentioned) demonstrated the " Puritan" side of many people.......sad but true.

I knew when I posted exactly what would happen......preordained. Its an aspect of the some people that simply demonstrates exactly how unenlightened many are.....sad really.

You knew that it would be deleted when you posted it because you knew it was breaking CR4 rules. We are not asking you to agree with the rules, simply to post without breaking them. I completely understand and even agree with your logic, but the rules for this forum still apply. Hopefully we can all reach, even surpass, levels of enlightenment that some have already achieved. Until then, though, please refrain from posting things that you know will be taken down.

Maybe just a link? I don't think a link violates the rules does it?

Let's continue this discussion by talking about Liquid-Filled Light Bulbs, the technology behind them, and perhaps their practicality.

Re: How It's Made: Switch's Liquid-Filled Light Bulbs

09/30/2012 4:27 PM

I visited Leningrad, Russia in 1961 on a school trip.

This reminds me of the control the communists tried to exert over us school kids, telling us which side of the bus to look out of for example.

Guess who looked out the other side and saw all the WW2 damage still lying there....the communist travel "leader" went white with fury, telling me that I had to look where she wanted me to, I told her, in front of 50 other British kids of 15, all laughing, that I came from a free country, I was a valued visitor to the Soviet Union and I would look where I wanted.

I also told her we could make a report about her once we left if that is what she wanted. She got red in the face and never said another word.

Let me remind you that we live in free countries, control of thinking is still not possible or allowed or accepted. Certainly not by me and most of your members.....we stay here for other reasons only.

You can delete what you want, but that does not change my thoughts on the subject.

Banning me, what would that achieve? Communist rule on CR4?

Accept it how it is.......we put stuff up and someone takes it down. Its a job!!!

"Let me remind you that we live in free countries, control of thinking is still not possible or allowed or accepted. Certainly not by me and most of your members.....we stay here for other reasons only."

No one is trying to control anyone's thinking.

"You can delete what you want, but that does not change my thoughts on the subject."

No one is trying to change your thoughts on the subject. In fact I even agreed with you.

"Banning me, what would that achieve? Communist rule on CR4?"

No one mentioned banning you. If a member refuses to stop posting offensive content, what option would we have in order to sustain a work/family safe forum? You may call it communist, we call it keeping a work/family save environment. If we had no rules for content, let's be real, this is the Internet, it would turn very bad very quickly. Where we draw the line is up to the CR4 Admin team. Other forums have other admins that make other decisions, these are ours.

"Accept it how it is.......we put stuff up and someone takes it down. Its a job!!!"

The difference here is that the travel leader was telling you what you can and can't look at. We are not doing that. We have established rules of content allowed to be posted on an engineering forum. As a member you agree to those rules. This is a work friendly website, and if you post things that are not safe for work, it will get taken down. I don't think I have a problem accepting how that is.

Although it may be the case at this moment, I do not believe that the admins job should be to spend most of his or her time mechanically sifting through content generated by users that do not give any thought to the rules and expect it to get cleaned up by admins. Ideally we would like users to be aware of the rules, and follow them with their posts. Then, admins could spend less time as janitors, and more as posters, bloggers, contributing to the improvement of a growing forum.

In an effort to provide a good forum, one way to do that is keeping threads on topic. Please help me do that.

You agreed to the rules and guidelines upon registration, and we don't think they're constricting or unreasonable. If you want to post such pictures, I'm sure there are plenty of xxx forums that would love that kind of traffic, but we don't.

Some more info

Link

And a link to an older (obsolete?) liquid-filled LED lamp from another manufacturer.
