Top Gear Revisits Deadly 720, This Time On Two Wheels

Posted October 30, 2012 9:46 AM

From autoblog:

The crew from Top Gear has just ridden off with its latest entry in the Guinness Book of World Records by being the first to complete a double loop on a motorcycle in front of a live audience without practicing. As you may recall, the show recently pulled off the same stunt with a four-wheeled buggy in South Africa. This time around, a stunt rider Gary Hoptrough tackled the double loop on a KTM dirt bike. Even more impressive, the show went off without bloodshed or bodily harm.

The video below shows just how well the stunt went, though it looks as if Hoptrough required a bit of a course correction after the second loop. With commentary from Ken Block and Jeremy Clarkson, the clip is well worth a look. Check it out.

Top Gear is really a lot of fun to watch. I happened on it after a Dr. Who episode on BBC America earlier this year and I was immediately hooked. I started recording and watching many of the back episodes, which BBCA has thankfully been running.

The only problem with the show is that it has given me Porche envy and I can't afford a Porche 911; not even a decent used one. I suppose I could settle for a Mazda MX5, but... it's not a 911.

I drove a really nice little Audi when I was recently in Ireland, but that model doesn't seem to be available in the US.

And oh yeah, that back-to-back 360 loop is insane.

Found it. It was an Audi A1. Designed to compete with the Mini-Cooper, it's not yet available here in the U.S.
