The 12 Days of Engineering - Contest

Posted December 06, 2012 9:30 AM by Chelsey H

Happy holidays from CR4! To help you procrastinate shopping for all of the items on your loved ones' lists, the CR4 team has come up with a little contest for you.

What makes up your 12 days of engineering? Write your own list (you only have to post the last verse, the complete list of 12) and post it as a comment in reply to this blog entry. Your post will qualify you for a chance to win one of two prizes from our Zazzle store. One prize goes to the person with the most good answer (GA) votes* and the other winner will be randomly selected. The contest ends on 12/17 and winners will be announced by 12/19.

* No cheating! The moderators can and will check GA and OT votes to make sure everything is fair.

Good Luck!

On the twelfth day of Engineering my true love gave to me...

Twelve mini projects
Eleven homework questions
Ten Google searches
Nine generators
Eight red-light cameras
Seven cable tables
Six cast iron bathtubs
Five Cavaliers
Four tin foil hats
Three Space Pens
Two machines of unity
And a kilogram of Unobtanium

I tried, I REALLY tried, to work LynDoor Industries into there!

It's a pity the song isn't longer as you could add "x questions on bus bar sizing"

Re: The 12 Days of Engineering - Contest

12/10/2012 10:21 PM

Here are one dozen of the many possible days my work-life could give me during the Christmas Season, which include but are not limited to one of:

One General Construction Contractor who ''knew'' he bid too low..., or

Two ''inspired'' Architects with conflicting ''visions'' of what the project should look like..., or

Three nervous Client contacts that don't talk to each other, at all..., or

Four Lender Reps who keep insisting that things be done even more cheaply..., or

Five Designers that can't agree on how much of what should go where in what order..., or

Six Plancheckers that insist on enforcing conflicting sections of different Building Codes, at the expense of the others..., or

Seven Permit Office workers who won't issue Permits because of applications with minor typos, unfamiliar but commonly used terminology, etc., and/or ''improperly'' folded plansets..., or

Eight ''sidewalk superintendants'' that keep distracting workers by asking them semi-relevant questions, instead of just letting them get their work done..., or

Nine public interest groups who continue to question the configuration of the project even though the Environmental Impact Report process, as well as the public hearings, were fully accepted before the project first broke ground..., or

Ten Inspectors that don't show up until after the installation of their parts of the facility have been completed and ''sewn-up''..., or

Eleven Sub-Contractors show up, wanting to be paid for additional over-runs..., or

Twelve Politicians that try to claim credit for a successful ''build''.

In any case, happy holidays to all, whatever your holidays might be.

At the end of the song, you will have 364 gifts from your true love as follows:

12 partridges in a pear tree

22 Turtle Doves
30 French Hens
36 Calling (Colly) Birds
40 Gold Rings
42 Geese a-laying
42 Swans a-swimming
40 Maids a-milking
36 Ladies dancing
30 Lords a-leaping
22 Pipers piping
12 Drummers drumming

That's 140 people, 184 animals and 40 gold rings and 12 pear trees.

Time to find another true love

Time to find another true love

That shouldn't be too hard after your true love finds out how much you spent when all they wanted was what they have been dropping hints for for the last two months.

"30 lords a-leaping? What on earth were you thinking!!! "
