Do you like to booze? If you have answered in the affirmative, then you would surely like to read more about the Bottoms Up Draft Beer Dispensing System.
One of these was in place this past summer at the local baseball park. Purely in the name of research I purchased five or six of them.
They do fill up quick, that's for sure.
I was intrigued by the number of people who, wishing to inspect the interesting fill mechanism of the cup, did not think to wait until the cup was empty before poking at the bottom...
The games I attended were all short (90 min +/-), and no beer sales after the end of the seventh inning.
I have inconclusive results from the first series of investigations, and anticipate more thorough research on this subject next summer. I might have to show up for the game two hours early!
Yeah... I agree, mostly a gimmick. Solution to an imagined problem. Beer filled with very little foam, so there is something to be said for being a bit faster. In Fargo ND the line at the beer stand was seldom more than three people deep, so not really a solution to anything for this market. I could see in larger venues, with many thirsty and anxious customers, the time saved (a few seconds per beer served?) might help keep tempers in check.
It was amusing to watch people try to save the beer pouring through the bottom of their compromised cup, that compromise a result of their inebriated curiosity.
Actually, to be able to server over a counter uncluttered by taps sticking up in the air, or needing a drain for spillover, and not wasting a drop of beer, are all good reasons why the technology is more than just a solution without a problem.
