CR4 Updates (Mailbox, User Groups) - March 2013

Posted March 19, 2013 4:08 PM by SavvyExacta

Hello! This post is a quick update explaining a few small changes that went live on CR4 today:

  • By now I think everyone has noticed CR4's new look. The team has been hard at work squashing the bugs that popped up after the blue carpet was rolled out on February 20. They've done a great job of getting everything back to normal. Some things are still a little weird in Internet Explorer, but that browser seems to have its own set of quirks.

  • Your mailbox should load faster and there are some new options related to displaying messages in your inbox. The default is "Showing recent messages." Other options include "Show unread messages" and "Show all." If you're in a mode other than the default, click "See inbox & sent mail" to show your sent messages. (If you belong on Mailbox Hoarders and would like to de-clutter, please PM me about temporarily removing site limits for doing so.)
  • Some users have been poking around in a new group that has a place for off-topic chat. (Note: While off-topic discussion is allowed in this forum only, all other site rules still apply, so please be respectful of others. Moderators will pop in from time to time but we hope participants will self-moderate.)

  • Some back-end changes have been made to user groups. This mostly included making the invitation system work properly. New user groups may be popping up in the future - and we hope that some of them will have their own forums!

That's it for now. Enjoy trying out the new features.

Once you get all the bugs worked out with Internet Imploder, Microsoft will round them all up and put them back in come next release, but no worries. Think of it as Job Security. ;D

Congrats to all - that must have been a lot of work. I'd love to live nearby so I could shout you all donuts and coffee, but luckily for my wallet I don't* ().

Yep, the PM mailbox thing seems to be working a whole lot better. That might seem a small detail to many, but for reprobates like me that is a huge thing. Job well sorted.

The new user group is a good thing, but new threads don't seem to be visible unless I log into that area. Might be my fault for cutting down on CR4 notifications, but new posts don't seem to show up on CR4's homepage - any chance you can slate that in for looking at sometime ? Several loud hints about it's existence have been given, but maybe it could do with a little more promotion so that everybody gets the general idea. Your point made earlier about taking such things slow but steady doesn't escape me, but it may be time to ratchet that up a little. I'm currently enjoying a discussion of a political nature - it would be better if that was over on the CR4 Fans space (it's a bit beyond the bound for anywhere on CR4, but a very cordial chat all the same).

Call me a dimwit, but I've never been quite clear on CR4's definition of 'forum', 'thread' and so on. I guess that 'forum' means some particular section (eg Mech Eng), and 'thread' means some particular discussion within such a location. OP - 'original post', or 'original poster' ? The difference is slight, but sometimes leaves me a bit confused. Such seemingly minor stuff must be difficult for anybody who doesn't use Britlish/American as a first language.
