SO what you are saying is you changed the part number and packaging box but never fixed the actual quirks and bugs in the product and are now proud to introduce it as new and improved just the same?

Whats next? Raise the price from $19.99 to $29.99 then try and tell us its worth $49.99 and that we are getting a great deal on the revamped item too?

Second login to get an impression of the new look. Can we have a slightly bigger font for the bit on top right hand side (member/login) ? Some of us old duffers don't have eyesight as sharp as we used to !

No new server, and I know that someone was working on the mailbox, but I'm not sure whether or not that change has been released.

The idea of a miscellaneous type forum is on the list for a time when we get an opportunity to do more work on CR4. This update was mostly about changing the header.

To those who don't like it, I say scroll down a couple of inches. Problem solved.

The new look is growing on me - it seems less cluttered, and the blue is nicely soothing. The slightly Stalinesque red stars still scare me a bit. Changing them to Gold wouldn't be too hard a tweak, and whilst still being readily noticeable would fit quite nicely with the new decor.

Next time I do something naughty, do I get time off for being constructive and complimentary a creep ?

On the See all Forum Threads page, the formatting has gone bonkers. The weird indentations are scattering things all over the page.

The white text on light gray backgrounds really screams out at me now too!

Any chance we can get all the advertising switched over to that format as well?

Aside: how come whinge isn't in the spell checker dictionary.

They printed it in bold white text on a well defined white background.

How could you have missed it?

I think it depends on you operating system or browser, the text looked fine at home at work I get grey and white and invisible text...plus the banner looks different here than at home.

I can't see your second image, but I had a similar problem today on a different computer. By just refreshing the page a handful of times in quick secession, I was able to get the new layout to show up properly. If it doesn't for you (and you tried clearing your cookies), let us know the details and we can look into it s'more

Only one picture, blank space is due to editing (badly) with Paint...now what drawer did I hide those cookies in?

Congratulations for making the changes in color. Blue is pleasing color compared to red. Changes are part of life so always welcome.

I am sure that IHS is a great company, but the logo pales in compariso with GlobalSpec's. :)

ACK, I understand that the web page is in transition but the white text on a light grey background in the NEW Comments and Good Answer area is almost invisible.

It's really weird that you're getting that, and you're not the only one.

Could you do me a favor and refresh the page 3-4 times? If it doesn't help, could you please let me know what browser (and version) you have, and maybe take a screen capture?

At Posts and comments by Username, I am getting white text on white for the date of post (I guess, because I see nothing), and light grey on white for time of post.

Instead of refreshing several times, you can use ctrl F5 to do a hard refresh-- it refreshes the page without looking at cached info.

(But if you're using IE 8 in compatibility mode, you're up a creek w/out a paddle right now-- it's definitely messed up there!)

I may be in the minority, but my philosophy has always been: "If it ain't broken, don't fix it". Some may see an improvement, others may see it as less or even a backwards slide in convenience. It appears to me to be someone (government or other) thinking "I'm doing this for your own good, because you don't know and we do". I don't object when someone asks for a change and it has been accomodated, but changes out of the blue do not make me happy. I admit, this forum has been pretty good. It's really the people who change the web browsers that upset me. I don't like having to re-educate myself every time a new change is invoked before I can get on with my business.

Just to add to the fun, here is what "compatible" mode with IE8 does to the subscription listing. Notice the thin blue line through "search GlobalSpec" and the text misalignment.

Regarding what is going on with the alignment issue, hit control-a to select and hilite all. There is quite a bit of white on white text that will reveal when hilited. This trick seems to work all over the site.

It's sort of interesting to watch how things are changing here at CR4.

It's sad that IE8 users are having such a rough go at this, but at the same time, this is just a little bit hilarious looking. Save that picture for the vault o' memories

In addition to the other formatting problems, the columns for numbers of replies and views do not fill in on the All Threads page.

Changing the "updated discussions" etc. back to red on yellow wasa good move.

I seem to have problems with the edit box in mobile

firefox - will investigate & amplify.

Chrome also seems to be making a badjobofit - delete previous char seems to delete next instead!!!!

Hmmm ... "updated discussions" red on yellow FF/Android ICS, dark blue on yellow FF/Win7. This used to be consistently red on yellow on every browser/OS/machine I've used. WTF?

Now black/yellow. If the yellow were a bit brighter, it could be taken as a hazard warning .

A few things are being tweaked to improve readability. I think we're staying with black and yellow for the time being! Don't worry, the links still do the same things. :)

Looks dirty...Ididn't hate the blue and yellow. Wouldn't it just be easier to make look like a normal link, I do like the way it shows numbers of messages and discussions.

Here's a new wrinkle. Since the white on grey change that happened earlier, I switched to Chrome being my default browser and have made all of my comments using Chrome. In the thread "Is this support adequate" I methodically made sure that my reply #28 I used the editor's upper case command to make sure my area units were in square feet, with an upper case numeral 2 to indicate. Now Chrome, IE8 and IE9 display my reply as feet2.

Displaying equations and unit structure properly is critical in engineering.

I getting some funky resolution changes,

I have not changed it, but the text gets extremely small and blurrly......... or it that just me?

I get that on firefox mobile (but not on the laptop).

PS, I withdrawl that last thanks, as I page within CR4, the resolution changes, and I have to hit 'ctrl 0' to get it back again.

Yeah, the pictures right now have unusually low resolutions, not sure what that's all about.

Curious, are you using a scroll wheel perhaps? It almost sounds to me like your "ctrl" button is stuck, and as you scroll, the resolution decreases.

Other than that, I haven't the foggiest idea of what's going on over on your side. All that "ctrl 0" does is bring you back to the "standard" resolution of a given website after it's been altered (either through the scroll wheel and ctrl or +/- and ctrl. Hmm.. maybe someone else can help? Or better yet, is anyone else having this problem?
