Now That’s What I Call Power Wheels

Posted June 27, 2007 3:04 PM by TechnoTourist

Do you ever have the urge to "flip someone the bird" while driving? What if you had a chance to settle the score with your rude, law breaking, tailgating friend at the next stop light? Wouldn't you like some sweet, legal revenge?

Daimler-Chrysler's 2005 Jeep Hurricane can make your revenge sweeter and your off-roading a one of a kind experience.

When this concept car was introduced at the Detroit Auto Show in 2005, few fathomed its capabilities. Trevor Creed, a Senior Vice President at Chrysler, described the vehicle best, explaining that "Jeep Hurricane is simply the most maneuverable, most capable and most powerful 4x4 ever built." This isn't just some marketing hype. Take a look at the specs. The Jeep Hurricane has over 12 in. of ground clearance and can exert 670 hp from not one, but two 5.7 L engines.

Impressed yet? Consider the coolest feature of all. The 2005 Jeep Hurricane can rotate in place! Yes, this baby can turn a full 360 degrees without moving forward through a red light. This is some bad news for your tailgating foe. Thanks to its four-wheel independent steering system, the Jeep Hurricane is the only car ever to have a turning radius of zero. This isn't just some novelty item. Drivers can stay safer while off-roading and get a lot less stressed when trying to parallel park.

So how's your tailgating friend at the stoplight doing now? Imagine your satisfaction when you turn your 2005 Jeep Hurricane around for a face-to-face confrontation. The mixture of fear, surprise and horror that you see is priceless, isn't it? Now turn your Jeep Hurricane back around and take a moment to celebrate your victory. In just five seconds, you can accelerate from 0 to 60 and leave your enemy wondering what just happened.

Do you know if people actually drive these? How much do they go for? How many have been sold? Are they still making them?

...Way too much fun!

It must have amazing trackability on almost any terrain.

Here, at last, a real, vivid, Turn-On-A-Dime.

Unfortunately the Jeep Hurricane is just a concept vehicle… so it isn't being mass produced or sold. There probably was some test driving available at the 2005 Detroit auto show, but recently there hasn't been any that I know about.

Looks like this is the closest we can get to driving this amazing vehicle… http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4938647

Why do kids get to have all the fun?

Too bad the wallymart version doesnt have the steering capabilities of the real thing...

2 speeds and limited turning ability .... outside of the cosmetics its not really all that different from the first generation power wheels jeeps .... well on those the wheels wore out really fast one regular pavement .... >_>

From what I can find, the Jeep Hurricane is said to be able to handle approach angles of 66 degrees and departure angles of 84 degrees.

I've wished for a vehicle that could do that but more for parking or maneuvering around tight spaces than impressing that tailgater. Turning the vehicle at high speed and eventually looking backward is an invitation to disaster!

How many times have I wished I could parallel-park my car in a tight spot without reversing or exercising my neck muscles to make sure I won't hit the other cars. That auto parking car? Who needs it if you have this one!
