Posting Timeouts--Fixed?!

Posted February 13, 2014 1:00 PM

As far as I can tell, the reason for the timeouts experienced by users trying to post to CR4 has been fixed. (Don't know what I'm talking about? Click here.)

Edit on 2/14: Looks like I spoke too soon. I've reported that you are still experiencing timeouts.

Thank you all for your combination of patience and prodding to help us get this resolved. If you're still experiencing problems posting to the site you can leave a comment on this page.

For more good news you can read this post about the one millionth comment posted to CR4.

It must have just happened.

I was timed out about 3 hours ago.

How about putting get rid of the anonymous poster function next on the list?

Then follow that by fixing the damn spell check so that it actually checks spelling when used.

Hear hear!

Since I use Firefox for my web access, it has its own spell-check functions, which I am used to using. In Firefox any word not in the local dictionary is flagged, and I just have to right-click on a word to call up an immediate spell-check on it.

This forum places its own right-click menu up in place of the normal right-click menu of the browser, preventing me from doing quick and easy spell checks.

This idea of having to click on the forum's spell-check button, then clicking on the pop-up to confirm that you have entered spell-check mode (when that is all you can do in that pop-up) THEN you can go through the words the forum has flagged, using who-knows-which dictionary, after which you have to click ANOTHER button to EXIT spell check, all seems like 'less-than-optimal,' to use the Engineering phrase.

Although I am not a fan of the CR4 spellchecker, it doesn't know so many words (I am always causing it to mark normal words as being spelt wrongly!), it is possibly the worst spellchecker I have ever seen, BUT, for those of us not using a PC/Laptop using English or American language, the best Spellchecker is still for them, that from CR4!!!

It would be nice to be given a choice though.......then those of us with English could select the spellchecker we like!!!

There is a choice, you can right-click, get the CR4 custom menu, select 'Bypass Custom Menu' and then get the normal right-click menu the next time you right-click, but the right-click after that is the CR4 menu again. So you can use your normal right-click menu and all its functions on CR4...

You should full well know how this works.

Management signs off on the work order saying that the problem was fixed just so that they can finally clear that 8 month old work order off someones desk even though nothing was actually done.

Now a whole new work order will have to rewritten to get the problem looked at again and wont become a priority that needs to be looked at for another 6 - 8 months.

Yeah.

I've gotten so used to automatically copying my posts, that it doesn't matter anymore.

Even if it gets fixed, I'll still do it. There's nothing worse than putting time and thought into a post, and having it disappear.

It's no big deal now that we know that we can just go back one click in the browser and copy.

I'd really like to BAN ANONYMOUS POSTERS.

Did you get any warranty with that repair? You may need to talk to Dewy, Cheetem and Howe. You have been ripped off. Failed twice between 12;00 and 1AM on 2/14.

A new definition of 'Fixed' needs to be added to the dictionary.

This footnote means it didn't go first time.

If I spend some time thinking about a reply, it always times out. I know it's going to happen, so I always copy everything to the clipboard first so I can re-reply and paste it in all at once. Snide remarks don't take so long, and so go through without any trouble.

Re: Posting Timeouts--Fixed?!

Actually I run Google Chrome which flags the misspelled words for me but I still don't like that I cant just click on a underlined word and correct it.

I have to

1: Click on the word.

2: acknowledge that I am going to bypass the custom menu.

3: Actually bypass it.

4: Click on the word to get the possible correct words to use.

Then repeat steps 2 - 4 for every following word after that.

It's like a bureaucratic committee designed the system figuring that using 3 - 4 steps for every word is better than only using one like all other forum systems work with.

I wonder what would happen if every time that we got "timed out" we sent it as a pm to the administrators.

I've dealt with moderators like that, but it was on an art site that was funded by donations (barely) and run entirely by unpaid volunteers. When you're looking for people who will do thankless work for no money, and do it even though they can get up and walk away, your talent pool is rather small, so you take what you can get.

Sat 15Feb, post time out. I type too slowly, make too many corrections, rewrite too often.

What is the 'time-out' period?

When does the count start?

On what page/window does it start?
