Bicycles also frequently face curbs in public places as well. Even pedestrians routinely face curbs in public places. E-cigs should just learn to be aware of their surroundings like everyone else.

I agree completely with your sentiment.

Another thing I've noticed with E-cig users, is that they claim to be 'ex-smokers' while all they have done is replace the burning leaves with a mist inhalant. They hold them like cigarettes, they blow 'smoke' (that they loudly proclaim is 'just water vapor'(1)) like smokers, The tips even glow brightly on the draw like cigarettes. Aside from the need for matches and ashtrays, they're still smoking, just without the fire aspect.

It reminds me a lot of how siblings will act in the back seat of a long road trip:

"Mom! Billy's toughing me!"

"Billy quit toughing your brother."

Billy then begins waving his finger near his brother, but not actually touching, "I'm not touching you, I'm not touching you..."

"Mom!"

If you're gonna smoke, go outside (15 feet from the door please) and smoke, if you're going to quit smoking, quit smoking. Don't use some little toy to claim you're not smoking when you're doing everything but the playing with fire.

Notes:

1) "Just water vapor," really? You're sure that the arosolized nicotine isn't mixed in with the water mist? You're causing second hand smoke without the actual smoke.

Does one also curb the users of vapor generators that do not look like an E-cig, or produce a red light?

That probably depends upon whether or not someone is in a red light district.

On a more somber note, I was given third party information last night that some children have been getting into the liquid nicotine supplies of those who use "Vapor" machines. In some instances this has resulted in fatal nicotine exposure through the skin or through direct injestion. Tragic! I think regular tobacco is much safer, at least in this regard.

Yeah, 'natural' tobacco is a low enough concentration that one should get to the 'puking guts out' stage long before fatal levels of nicotine are reached.

The "Nic fit' patched look like bandages, and taste like used bandages (or worse) so kids are less likely to eat those, and the dosing one gets from handling the patch is supposed to be low, so it's not an immediate health risk. The E-cig fluids can be brightly colored and candy flavored. Leaving that stuff 'out in the open' (by which I mean 'not under lock and key,' kids are GREAT at finding things that are hidden, simply 'putting it where they won't look' is like hanging a neon sign over it) is as irresponsible and ethically wrong as leaving a bowl of antifreeze out on the driveway.

The amount of tobacco in just a few cigarettes contains enough nicotine to exceed the LD 50 for an average adult. It isn't that the concentration is really that low, though the 'puking the guts out' part probably does help to avoid more fatalities.

.

Most of the nicotine is burned up when a cigarette is smoked. Smoking a few thousand cigarettes is at least a semi-suicidal act, but eating just a few could easily be suicide in a more expedient manner.

How can E-cigarettes help people to stop smoking if they can put nicotine in the device?

Smoke typically described an aerosol produced mainly by action of a burning fuel. As such, vaporizers are producing an aerosol doesn't fit the popular definition of smoke.....so technically it might be fair to say they aren't smoking.

.

Beyond semantics, there may be meaningful benefits to trading the habit of smoking for one of vaping. Although nicotine is a potent toxin, it isn't really what is most dangerous about smoking cigarettes. The myriad of combustion products along with alpha emitters in cigarette smoke create hazards in the long term far in excess of the nicotine received.

.

To the extent that a reduction in exposure to that cocktail of chemicals might be experienced by people vaping instead of smoking, and so long as such a reduction is not accompanied by a significant increase in risk by some other chemicals/actions, there may be meaningful benefits to e-cigs....even if the nicotine addition is not diminished.

.

Also, someone falling asleep with an e-cig they've been puffing on, in hand is bound to be far more safe than that person falling asleep with a cigarette in hand they've been puffing on.
