With the extreme unnecessary safety risk of putting machine control and/or sensors in the cloud (not to mention downtime), you would think governing bodies like OSHA or NEC would step in and stamp that idea out cold. Have you heard any input from them or others regulating bodies who are supposed to protect the industry?

With the every growing increase of cyber attacks, how could any process and manufacturing company cost justify adding the risk of machine controls (active anyway) in the clouds or even on the internet? (With passive internet connection, just monitoring, the safety risk is mitigated somewhat. But routing a sensor the machine needs to make decision on, through the outside world before it gets back to machine controller, should scare anyone.)
