RFID is Key to IoT

Posted September 26, 2014 12:00 AM by Engineering360 eNewsletter

One of the hottest technology topics is the Internet of Things (IoT), and how the number of IoT enabled smart devices is skyrocketing. But the IoT is not a technology unto itself; rather, it is built upon a combination of existing and new processors, power sources, sensors, and communications technologies. No solution will work right "out of the box" to provide an end-to-end IoT implementation. RFID-enabled technologies, however, pemit smart tracking of materials and environmental sensing, key parts of the IoT. RFID Journal explains how RFID tags will play an integral role in the IoT.

I thought 'The Internet of Things' was a good idea until I found out my toaster was spending all of its free time on facebook chatting with a hot little microwave oven in Florida. And she was married to an exhaust fan, so that could have caused a lot of trouble.
