Running Out of Power?

Posted December 21, 2014 12:00 AM by Engineering360 eNewsletter

Power Magazine shares a rather stunning revelation: the world will need to build enough power plants to replace 40% of the existing fleet in the next 25 years. According to the International Energy Agency's World Energy Outlook 2014, roughly 7,200 GW of capacity will need to be built by 2040 to replace retiring power plants worldwide. Unfortunately, the power industry remains "under stress" due to uncertainty over nuclear power, continuing crises in Russia and the Middle East, and other factors. Here's a closer look at what the IEA is projecting - and why world leaders should be concerned.

Here we go again!

Every blinkin report that comes out these days, on nearly any subject dealing with resources, ALWAYS assumes we are idiots and not capable of responding to shortages. So what? The dang things will get built and a lot of happy construction workers will be well employed for a while.

You obviously don't stay in South Africa where "Load Shedding" is a daily occurrence. This is due to shortage in Generating Capacity. I think you need to re look your statement as it is already a reality in some countries. Don't be fooled to say there are "people" that looks in to this. The common problem is people make mistakes and miscalculations.
