The Robots Are Escaping the Factory Floor

Posted January 28, 2016 12:00 AM by Engineering360 eNewsletter

Robots are escaping the confining walls of the factory and moving into the field. Field robots harvest crops, explore volcanoes, and do a variety of things in-between and beyond. It's even possible to use an after-market kit to turn your conventional tractor into a driver-less tractor. A two-part story features industry expert Red Whittaker, who forecasts continued improvements in sensors and how artificial intelligence will expand the role of robots in agriculture, mining, and a variety of future self-piloted missions, including delivering cargo to the surface of the moon.

Dickey-John always had ads in agricultural magizines (Hoards Dairymen, Wisconsin Agricultrist), this was why back in the 70's.

They had for planting and such.

Was was surprising is the automatic milkers and feeding systems for dairy cows, which also have been around for a while, our neighbor just put one in.

And the cows decide when to be milked.

This isn't your grampa's farm anymore.
