Looks like it might have been a fire station at one point in time. But I'm still stumped.

G.A. I also thought it might have been an old fire station, but could not find it searching for old fire stations converted to a house. I then thought what else would have a large arched central door and saw a carriage house. I searched "Carriage house converted to a home" and it was the 3rd picture. Funny it was a fire department carriage house.

The really tall door suggested fire apparatus to me. A regular carriage house wouldn't need such a tall door.

Perhaps the doors were shorter and there was a hay loft entry in the arched portion?

Agreed on the fire station appearance.

Reminds me of a late 19th century pumping station, but I can't find a matching one.

There are plenty of carriage houses in the Heights. This charming example on Pineapple Street was formerly a Brooklyn Fire Department stable, built in 1890. It was converted into a residence as long ago as 1920, 11 years after the first motorized fire apparatus was introduced in New York. http://designerscollaborativenyc.com/moonstruck-glenn-gissler-moves-to-brooklyn-heights/

Thank you. The tree kind of threw me off, it looks dead in the 2nd pic, maybe they cut it down.

JPool was correct this week and Brave Sir Robin was on the right track as well. I came across this last building on Architectural Digest’s list of “4 Spectacular New York City Carriage Houses.” 31 Pineapple Street is “tucked in between palatial brownstones … in Brooklyn Heights.” In fact, the building looks downright tiny when compared to its neighbors. When it was built in the 1880s, the structure was intended as a stable for the Brooklyn Fire Department, but it has since been converted into a single-family home. Most carriage houses were not used as stables, instead housing the carriages and, occasionally, the living quarters of grooms and liveried coachmen.
