really???, I have Symantec Endpoint and it did not block it. Well the wiki one is safe.

I will thank you for the find, your light house (Petit Manan) is so close that I figured they had to be related. Same state, Maine, just a little taller. They were both built in 1855.

Probably a false positive warning. With all the anti-thiis-and-that apps I run I didn't get the warning.

And that is the message that Norton displays when their overprotective software produces a false positive. Norton is the worst anti-virus application when it comes to this stuff.

There is nothing wrong with newenglandlighthouses.net. Report the false positive by following these INSTRUCTIONS on the Symantec website.

Reminds me of the time back in the 90's when Norton shipped their anti-virus software (on diskettes) with a virus embedded in it. They haven't been the most robust AV software company around.

Hooker

PS - I will be happy to revise my view if someone can provide the same warning from another AV app.

All I can say is that I haven't had any problems since using Norton 360...several computers for several years...if it ain't broke , don't fix it...

Far be it from me to advocate that you change your AV software. That's not my point. I just want folks to be aware that none of them are perfect and can display false positives.

And some are better than others at testing their software for these problems. I only ask that you send a report to Symantec via the link above and report the incident. Let them make the final appraisal. I, for one, would be interested in their response.

I didn't get a warning just now. Of course I have the benefit of whatever protection our IT people provide. Don't know what it is. I have had that kind of warning pop up, including one last week that almost scared the zippers off me.

As JPool guessed, last week’s building was the Boon Island Lighthouse. Constructed on Boon Island — “a tiny outcropping of granite … located six-and-a-half miles off Maine’s southern coast” — in 1855, the current structure replaced a series of earlier lighthouses. The first, a wooden tower built in 1799 was destroyed in a storm. The second, a stone “day beacon” replaced it in 1805. The subsequent towers grew in height as shipwrecks continued around the island and each of the lighthouses fell into disrepair.
