Refurbished phones as low as $25 bucks* You don't need no smartphone, let's face it you're a dumbass, all you need is a basic phone, don't be hoodwinked into buying some fancy gadget that nobody can operate but a rocket scientist, you're no rocket scientist you're a workin' man or gal....

Crazy "don't call me" Bob has your phone waiting, come on by and we'll drink a beer and get you hooked up pronto!!!

..I ordered a universal / helical / black anodized / reception boosting antenna.

And check it out .. it screws in with a regular Phillips screwdriver..

Works pretty good.. I got a three pack for only 9.99 plus shipping if you want one of the extras.

Re: Caption This for 05/10/2019

Beyond the easy screw/thread wordplay and attendant jocularity, this educated CR4 group must surely appreciate that the image of the cellular-phone/bugle-headed screw conjunction is actually a metaphorical representation of the 18th century philosopher Emanuel Swedenborg's theory of the hierarchy of forms. In mid-life Swedenborg transitioned from engineer to mystic, which explains this "Caption This" reference to him. He posited that forms ascend from the lowest to the highest, from the terrestrial to the celestial, and then ever upwards to the spiritual.

To paraphrase: The lowest form is the angular, or terrestrial; the next higher is the circular, or perpetual-angular (since the circumference of a circle is a perpetual angle); then the spiral (parent and measure of circular forms), or perpetual-circular; then the vortical, or perpetual-spiral; then the perpetual-vortical, or celestial; then the highest, the perpetual-celestial, or spiritual. It is apparent that both in form and in function, the photographed assembly is intended as an expression of Swedenborg's cosmology of ascending forms.

Also, the composer of this image is obviously familiar with the writings of mystic poet and painter, William Blake ("To hold infinity in the palm of your hand and eternity in an hour."). The person in the photograph holds a representation of Swedenborg's vision of a terrestrial/spiritual continuum in the palm of his hand, and enables us to understand that vision with unprecedented clarity.

I don't know about all that. What I see, is the natural progression from something shiny-brandnew to something old & breaking down. It's the screw that was intended to extend the life of the phone, so the owner could use it longer than he could without his intervention. In other words, he used a screw so he wouldn't be screwed.

If he was trying to make a philosophical point/picture, he should have used words. As they say, "Philosophy is in the eye of the beholder.". I doubt that anyone thinks a picture of a screw is philosophical. One could be philosophical about/within reality, but reality itself is just reality and can't really exist "outside the box" of reality.

Thankyou for explaining the photo to me. I wasn't aware that the screw "was intended to extend the life of the phone". How did I miss that? Also, thanks to your insight that the photographer "should have used words if he was trying to make a philosophical point", I now know that all of the photographers, painters, sculptors, and musicians who now live, or who have ever lived, have nothing to say and nothing to teach us because they don't, and didn't, use words.

Re: Caption This for 05/10/2019

I do realize that some people don't have a voice and can't use the spoken word, some illiterate and can't use the written word, some without hands can't use the signed word or draw a picture in the sand/dirt, and some don't kno words at all. But, a picture captures what's in front of you; it isn't an expression of one's thoughts. A montage of pictures/icons/emojis might, or a video/movie. But, a single still picture just leaves the observer to draw his own opinion from it without any input from the "speaker"/photographer/conveyor-of-deep-thoughts. It's not like a painting/song/music/book at all.

I am so glad, my child, that the scales have fallen from your eyes and you finally see and understand the profound metaphor of this image. The screw is not just a screw, it is "the golden key to the palace of eternity". (Ralph Waldo Emerson)

Given the simple-minded and banal "screw" wordplays throughout this thread, maybe "a bit of a stretch" is needed.

But for those who think "My cellphone is screwed" is a side-splitter, here are a few other witticisms of that ilk which I composed on the spot:

Using that spring will be a bit of a stretch.

Fixing those clamps is a pressing matter.

His power-wash business went down the drain.

Specifying that type of bolt is a twisted idea.

We had a heated argument about the furnace sizing.

That hydraulic cylinder will fail when push comes to shove.

Our freezer design got a frosty reception.

I called Jack my neighbour, and Jack my friend, because I needed two Jacks to lift the beam.

We went to the animal shelter for all of our workbench dogs.

Oh... I can't go on. My sides are aching...
