Pretty good guess Solar Eagle given how far away you are. But you are too modern and the wrong side of the Channel. These were Martello Towers built along the English coast. I think of them as being a Sussex thing (my home county) but this one is Suffolk (If you imagine the UK as a fat bloke with sitting down Suffolk is the arse). They were built as defence against Napoleaonic invasion

Cannon.

Single piece mounted so it could be rotated to cover the visible horizon

They were designed to take out ships at sea and at longer range than the French warships own cannon.

There's a wiki article (isn't there for everything) and they were built all over the old Empire. Although to be fair we were fighting the French everywhere

Archers were more a 14th century weapon for defeating the French
