Re: Caption This for 9/13/2019. Art School Disambiguation Disaster

09/14/2019 1:28 AM

"When You're a Hammer, Everything Looks Like a Nail"

The art school bookkeeper/buyer had a wooden one of these in mind when he ordered 1500 palettes:

The item price was around $5 each for small quantities and $3 each for 1000 or more.

The picture showed:

The review said "Large, sturdy palette for a great price."

The art school building had no shipping/receiving department and the buyer was in the habit of shipping purchases to his own home where he had his work-at-home office. He was usually on hand to secure the school-bound deliveries directly into the school-owned panel van our buyer kept in his home garage and was free to use otherwise for that consideration.

It is unfortunate that the buyer was transporting an earlier acrylic paint delivery to the school and, therefore, was not at home when this delivery truck behemoth deposited the palette purchase on his front lawn. The buyer hurried home when a shipping bill greater than the already-paid bulk item purchase amount appeared in his email but, alas, the trucker had already departed.

The buyer instantly realized why the seller had been recommending personal pickup at the seller's location(2000 miles away) but also offered shipping at actual costs billed directly from shipper to buyer with credit card and stipulating up-front a strict no-shipping-costs-refunds policy. Furthermore, the buyer understood why the bizarre shipping bill itemized a hefty rough-terrain fork lift service charge the minute he saw the mud stirred up in his front yard from the unloading operation.

Re: Caption This for 9/13/2019 Hi,How Are You ?

09/14/2019 8:50 AM

Record Store Art, An Austin TX Legend and Tradition...

Good guess but many of these are the double length, "..large, sturdy palettes.." because the seller has more trouble selling these used. Fewer used palette customers have lifts with double length forks or loads light enough for single length forks to negotiate safely. Receiving these larger palettes was why the reviewer complemented the seller with the "..large, sturdy palettes.." comment since that particular local buyer was deconstructing the palettes for the wood.

The art school ultimately used most of these double length palettes for portable "Hi, how are you" and similar pseudo-graffiti artwork supports for record stores and such when rental building owners did not want any paint directly on their outside walls. The art school students were good at custom painting the separate signs so that they appeared to be part of the buildings.

Or is it 3,000 pallets of sailoat fuel?

Note: Transport companies in Aus usually stack the upper layers at 90 deg. so the air can flow though them rather than be a large block with horrible side turbulence.
