He may have exaggerated a bit when describing his "jet boat" to get her on a date.

There's nothing more romantic, and relaxing than taking your girl on a nice quiet ride on the lake.

This worked much better than raking leaves with a canoe paddle!

It was a blow to the ego of this sucker to find the jet boat was just a lot of hot air!

This is OT but interesting, I think...

Apparently "sucking" doesn't generate any reverse thrust. See Feynman's sprinkler.

Illustration 153a from Ernst Mach's Mechanik (1883). When the hollow rubber ball is squeezed, air flows in the direction of the short arrows and the wheel turns in the direction of the long arrow. When the rubber ball is released, the direction of the flow of the air is reversed but Mach observed "no distinct rotation" of the device.

Her: This is stupid! Doesn't Dad know the yard is flooded?

Him: He said no more excuses... if we want our allowance, we need to do the yard work.

Her: Are you kidding me?

Him: Stop with all the questions! I'm still trying to figure out how we're going to mow!

I designed landscaping equipment, string trimmers, brush cutters, etc, for 10 years and we had quite a client base in South America. We ran across a couple of repurposings that were novel. One common practice in the Amazon basin was for users working on plantations to swap the cutter for a propeller and use a brushcutter to propel a canoe to work, swap to a brushcutter blade on for work and then swap back on the propeller to go home at the end of the day. They also had a flamethrower conversion for a backpack brushcutter to burn out cutter ant nests. It used exhaust pressure to blow fuel siphoned off the gas tank onto the nests which could then be lit off. The tricky part was the exhaust gas had no oxygen in it, so the siphoned fuel wouldn't burn until it got blown into open air.

We saw some possible product liability concerns, so we never tried to market a retrofit kit.
