Creating a viable fabrication process with features below 45 nm requires an enormous expenditure of effort and resources. Seven major semiconductor manufacturers have banded together to conduct the basic research and development, until issues have been addressed. Although AMD and IBM are members, interestingly Intel is not. Is this a good move for the industry?

This is nothing new, as Sematech has been around here in Austin since the mid 80's. Locally we have long time players such as; Texas Instruments, AMD, and Motorola (Freescale).
