Glowing Pig Passes Genes to Piglets

Posted January 10, 2008 9:45 AM

From National Geographic News:

A cloned pig whose genes were altered to make it glow fluorescent green has passed on the trait to its young, a development that could lead to the future breeding of pigs for human transplant organs, a Chinese university reported. Two of 11 piglets glow fluorescent green from their snouts, trotters, and tongues under ultraviolet light, according to Northeast Agricultural University, located in the city of Harbin.

Well, it would pay to keep well clear of bacon and ham from sources in China.

Everyone seems to have forgotten my friend, who had managed that genetic twist some years ago.

Although the colour is different, the effect is perhaps more startling, even though many people do not think about the gene-spliced creature very often.

Kind Regards.....
