Do Green Policies Pay

Posted February 12, 2008 8:06 AM

The green technology most readily embraced by architects at present is high-efficiency HVAC systems. Recently 64% of the polled architects specified high-efficiency HVAC on more than half their projects. Only 16% specified high-efficiency HVAC on less than 10% of their projects. This marks a tremendous increase over the 36% of architects who recalled specifying the systems five years ago. How is the Green movement affecting your mechanical design and/or contracting business? Can going green through energy efficiency and sustainable materials benefit your bottom line?

Several years ago, in the eighties, when I was working on tower blocks (upto 30 stories) hot & cold water, toilets and fire systems; I proposed that we connected the fire tank to the water table and put in a compartment for the toilet system. This still works well and has saved a staggering amount of potable water and water company payments. Is this green before time?
