Posted April 11, 2008 8:46 AM

From BBC News | Technology | World Edition:

The number of viruses, worms and trojans in circulation has topped the one million mark. The new high for malicious programs was revealed by security firm Symantec in the latest edition of its bi-annual Internet Security Threat Report. The vast majority of these programs have been created in the last twelve months, said Symantec. Cyber criminals pump out malware to fool anti-virus programs which look for characteristics they have already seen.

So what's going to bring the web to it's knees first - the profusion of viruses etc, or the clogging-up of the available bandwidth by so much streaming video... ?

Only 1,000,000, says Symantec, who are somewhat out of touch with the cyberworld.

One of the best Anti-Malware Utilities I use, has almost 2,000,000 listed in the database, and increasing at several thousand each 59 minutes, where I have set it to auto-update.

Full time Internet infection of an unprotected Computer is now under 6 seconds, and that first malware item invites others of the same ilk, to come and make the computer their home.

For dial-up, the time is now down to under 4 minutes, for an unprotected computer.

Remember that no single Security Utility can get it all, thus several compatible Security Utilities need to be run on a 24/7 Guard basis, if you don't want your computer to end up as a Slave Zombie.

Kind Regards....
