IBM races to make hi-tech memory

Posted April 11, 2008 8:49 AM

From BBC News | Science/Nature | UK Edition:

Handheld gadgets storing thousands of hours of film footage could soon be a reality thanks to IBM scientists. Researchers for the computer giant are working on a technology known as racetrack memory which uses tiny magnetic boundaries to store data. In a paper in the journal Science, the team at IBM's Almaden lab in California outline ways to make the building blocks of the novel storage medium.

The development looks interesting, thanks.

No doubt we shall get down to the atomic lattice type of memory, within 20 years.

Power requirements are then extremely small.

Kind Regards....

Why not spend some time in trying to expand the human capability. There are papers around which indicate the the synaptic pathways have a cross linking capability that exceeds the number of positively charged electrons in the known cosmos, and we are said to use only 2% of this capcity? You could then network the heads, and then see what human capability is. Maybe current human genius is in fact the norm at say 8 or 9% capacity?
