From Inside Line Automotive News:
RUSSELSHEIM, Germany — The Opel Eye, an in-vehicle camera that can read speed limit and no-passing signs, was introduced on Wednesday. Opel said the system will be available in early 2009 on the Opel Insignia, with other models to follow shortly.
The high-tech system, which was developed by GM/Opel and auto supplier Hella, bundles two functions. The Traffic Sign Recognition function reads the speed limit and no-passing signs and displays them on the instrument panel. A lane departure warning system alerts drivers when they veer out of the lane. "These two systems improve driving safety, reduce stress and can even prevent costly speeding tickets," Opel said in a statement.
