Toyota Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles Testing Begins in UK

Posted September 12, 2008 8:55 AM

From Newlaunches.com:

Toyota together with EDF Energy, the British subsidiary of the French energy company EDF, has began testing Toyota plug-in hybrid vehicles on public roads in the United Kingdom from September 10. The UK road tests, like those conducted with EDF in France starting in autumn 2007, involve setting up necessary infrastructure, evaluating vehicle performance and ease-of-use, and surveying participating vehicle users. Plans call for the test period to continue for more than one year. UK is the fifth country in which Toyota has conducted tests of plug-in hybrid vehicles on public roads, following tests that began in 2007 in Japan, the United States, France and Belgium.

Why do the Brits get all of the new Good Cars?

Saw in my local news paper this week a brand new small engine car. Rated 17 city and 30 highway.

So in our day and present age, why and I do mean why is this small car so lousy in mileage???

Is it a Conspiracy?????

Is that a small american car or a small european / japanese car?

What is the engine size?

I have a small car and i couldn't tell you what the actual mpg is but I do know that it costs me just under £40 to fill my car with petrol and I can do about 400 miles on one tank of petrol. Most of that is commuting to and from work with is a short (~5miles) urban journey every day.

Think it was a small American one:

Under 200 horses if I remember, so that is why I thought of the Conspiracy. I mean with all of the new static on Big Oil, and us getting gouged at the pump by the Barons one must think.

Who would buy it, a Prius might cost a bit more but over three to five year ownership the quiet little Gas Miser will pay for itself?

I Dun know, Mine goes fast and drinks a lot of gas, So I'm a hypocrite?

That's 'cos you guys only like big ugly thirsty crap cars .
Just teasing...I notice that you guys in the USA are doing much more in terms of DIY electric car conversions and stuff (it's one of my 'coffee time, wouldn't it be nice if only I had a decent workshop' projects)

I thought it was to atone for all of the miserably engineered and built Brit cars you'd suffered through for all those years? Or were those features just on the ones you shipped to US?

Of course those were only featured on the ones shipped to the US!

But you have paid us back with interest for those!

You realise this is a throw-away car.

Just wait until you get the quote for battery replacement.

It's going to exceed the cost of a new car.

Then where is all that scrap going to go?

These are questions which need answers - answers which are so far lacking from the Makers.

Kind Regards....

The scrap should go to the breakers' yards, thence to be recycled into the next round of throwaway cars, which will help keep their price below that of the new replacement batteries - simple, eh?
