Can You Help This Man?

Posted September 25, 2008 8:20 AM

My friend is trained as an industrial designer, knows his way around a machine shop, and has practical, hands-on engineering skills. He has numerous patents to his credit, is proficient at Web design, and understands how sales and marketing interface with manufacturing and design. He has all this, but doesn't have a job. Where does a jack-of-all-trades like him fit in?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Pneumatics, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Pneumatics today.

A move to Mumbai or Shanghai Fengpum, that is where the talent scouts are seeking trained people.

Meaning no disrespect to our technical brethern over there at all, them are just the facts mam, just the facts.

Company I worked for last year had an infinite budget to train folks in Mumbai, but not one red sent for anyone in the states. Told us not to get mad about it because it was just business you know?

I Dun-Know how the world works, but if money is not made, cars and houses can not be paid for. Bet the accountants running the world have not figured out why fiolks are defaulting on loans.

I would start with a professionally written resume. Follow all the dos and donts of interviews. "Job shops" are a good place to get a high paying job. It also lets you check out the company from the inside. Many companies enlist the services of temps to find the right individual for the job. Once found, the company will ask the temp to come work permanently. Companies do this because it is cost effective and allows them to find the right people on a temp basis without a permanent commitment. CDI corp. is one such temp.

In India there is great shortage of mechanical design engineers.Even my friend who retired recently he got another job. Well, envoirnment is totaly different than U.S but if one can adopt to changed culture then he has good potential here.
