Do We Live in a Giant Cosmic Bubble?

Posted September 30, 2008 9:22 AM

From SPACE.com:

If the notion of dark energy sounds improbable, get ready for an even more outlandish suggestion. Earth may be trapped in an abnormal bubble of space-time that is particularly void of matter. Scientists say this condition could account for the apparent acceleration of the universe's expansion, for which dark energy currently is the leading explanation.

Goodness gosh:

That must explain why the Republicans have been in power for so long.

And why Conservatives really are not Conservatives; 12 Trillion in Debt now.

"...things could look farther away than they really are..."

So now we need to mark all telescopes like the passenger side mirrors on cars - "Objects In Mirror Are Closer Than They Appear", I suppose.

On a scale of 0 to 100, I'd give this theory a probability of 0.001.

Dun Know about that:

There are a lot of people spending a lot of resources and time forcing people to believe things that are not real.

That could have a negative effecton the earth and its suroundings. Human will and beliefs are maevelous things. If focused upon non real things, this could be an just a effect of the total unbalance being created.

What you believe now, just possibly is not realy there????

Looks like some one has been watching MIB (Men In Black) too many times.
See the Galaxy on Orions Belt.

If the Earth is in a bubble where the matter density is lower than "normal", it does not nescessarily mean we are in a special place. There could be trillions of these low density bubbles thruout the universe. The universe could be "foamy" with these bubbles. This would really complicate distance and time measurements even more that it already is.

We know that matter is not uniformly distributed thruout space, so space-time itself could likewise be irregular, since matter affects it. Light from our "standard" stars could have more or less scattering than calculated.

There is no way of establishing this, one way or the other.

We may really exist on a very small particle in a much larger-scale universe, and, likewise, our perceived universe may be some large thing in a very much smaller-scale system.

Kind Regards....

What seems like 10% could really be 90%, and what seems like 50% could really be 1%. Maybe Lewis Carroll should be considered the "father of modern astrophysics"!

Some theories say that the entire universe, all of space-time is finite, like a huge expanding bubble. Which leads to wondering what is outside the bubble universe. If the universe bubble is expanding, what is it expanding into? Or perhaps the universe is really infinite. No one knows for sure.

Actually, this space/time bubble has evidence to support it. Check this out:

NASA has reported that as its satellites move closer to the outside edges of our solar system, the radio signals from it speeds up, as if the wave is being stretched. The only thing powerful enough that can change the speed of radio waves is gravity. And since gravity is dictated by mass, it seems that there is an area outside our solar system that is much more dense in matter, thereby bending radiowaves...and consequently light also.

Looks like we do indeed live in a bubble. This bending of light would make it appear that the other stars are much further away than they really are. This would also explain in Young Earth theory, how light from the stars could appear to us within days of the Genesis creation when they appear to be millions of years away.

And I would say that this bubble shows that we live in a special place in the Universe.
