Are MEMS Slow to Commercialize?

Posted November 09, 2008 8:12 AM

In a recent EETimes article, President Roger Grace ponders the questions related to the slow progress associated with MEMS commercialization, and discusses why there exists such a discrepancy between the integrated circuit (IC) and MEMS market, despite the processing similarities. What is the greatest challenge to MEMS commercialization? What technical and business hurdles lie ahead for MEMS technology? Which industries are still slow to embrace MEMS?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from MEMS Technology, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to MEMS Technology today.

Well, as one who have tried MEMS accelerometers (ADIS 16003) I encountered a problem not mentioned in the data sheet and avoided, in their answers, by the tech support at Analog: the phase delay that is noticeable and that affects the signal (and the use of it!). I gave up using it.
