How to Safeguard Against New IE Vulnerability

Posted December 17, 2008 8:59 AM

From Extremetech:

Internet Explorer has sprung a leak, and Microsoft advises that you batten down the hatches. A recent security advisory explains that a vulnerability in all modern versions of IE could allow an attacker to execute malicious code. As pointed out earlier, there are a number of workarounds to plug this potential leak. They're pretty complicated, though, so I'll walk you through the process.

Alternatively, there is a quicker fix.

Download Firefox. Click "Install".

I'm so, so sorry Microsoft. We both wanted to make this work between us. You took me back after I dated Netscape. I took you back each time you gave me an infection. Each time you came out of the hospital, you promised it would be better from that day on. But you still keep it secret when you're sick. And you wait until I get hurt before you go back to the doctor.

I can't stand it anymore. I've been seeing other browsers on the side. And they treat me with the dignity I feel I deserve. I know they're not you...and I'll miss that so much in my life...but I need to move on.

Internet Explorer has sprung a leak

That's like saying British Civil Servants occasionally loose laptops.

MS put a big open crater there and now they area amazed that it is leaking there.

I have changed my automatic updates setting so Windows first have to ask to update. The last straw was when windows ignored my wishes and downloaded IE? and SP3 and another.

I don't want SP3 because it is interfering with a DOS program I am running.

I am using Firefox on a Linux machine and find it different but good. So I took the small step for me and downloaded and installed Firefox on my PC. As a bonus somebody installed a svchost as well (I never trusted svchost - SVCTerrorist)

So far Firefox has fire on all the cylinders.
