LED Lights Shaped as Snow Flowers and Ripples Light Up Seoul

Posted December 22, 2008 8:58 AM

From Newlaunches.com:

Seoul is lit up the high tech way this year for Christmas as LED lights are installed in shapes of snow flowers and ripples in a pond against the backdrop of Cheonggyecheon's clear water during the 2008 Hi Seoul Winter Festival. The snow crystal shaped lights and ripple lights in the water create the perfect cozy and romantic winder mood for the citizens. [Aving]

I'm working in Korea now, and I can say that Koreans love their night lighting, LED or otherwise. In winter, they drape most trees and bushes around the cities and apartments with 'Christmas' lights. Incidentally, Cheonggyecheon is actually a converted storm drain! For years it was basically a culvert under a main road going through the middle of Seoul. They closed the road to traffic, dug it up and landscaped the ditch into a nice looking stream, and added pumps to ensure water flow during dry periods. Korea, especially Seoul, can seem a very artificial place to foreigners, especially Australians like myself, but with such a high population density it's no wonder, and I have to admit, I quite like Cheonggyecheon.

It's Tuesday morning now, it's -6 deg. c. and it snowed last night. Possibly a white Christmas. :-)
