Windows XP Allowed to Live Again

Posted December 22, 2008 9:02 AM

From BBC News | Technology | World Edition:

Microsoft has given yet another reprieve to its seasoned Windows XP operating system. The cut off date for PC makers to obtain licenses for the software was 31 January 2009. But now Microsoft has put in place a scheme that will allow the hardware firms to get hold of XP licences until 30 May 2009. Previously Microsoft extended XP's life until 2010 - provided it was installed on netbooks and low-cost laptops.

Long live XP.

Vista was an epic faliure, and should be forgotten about as soon as possible.

Vista is the only OS that allows the full graphical benefits of Direct-X 10, and although only a few high end graphics cards support Direct-X 10 (like mine) I am sure that it will be worth it......when they finally release Direct-X 10. What has it been, 1 year now!

Patience all.

<Windows update has knocked out your high-end graphics card graphics driver stopping the monitor from working. Please blindly move the mouse around and click in a vain attempt to try and shut your computer down from the desktop. Oh, you cannot see this message! In that case here is how to fix the problem................>.

According to a German computer magazine, they see no problems with maintaining XP till at least 2014 and they intend to help as well, but if M$ keep moving the milestones, maybe they will not need to do so much to achieve that goal!!!

Windows 7 is looking quite good already according to the same mag and in many ways is far better than Vista and XP already.

In a recent test of all 3, Win7 was first (in spite of a few teething problems (only to be expected!), XP second and Vista came in a very poor last. No surprises there for anyone here I suspect!
