Boxy is Back: The 2009 Nissan Cube

Just when you thought boxy might be going out of style, we are starting to see more concepts and production models take on the two-box shape that Scion helped make popular again. Since Nissan skipped Detroit, this was our first chance to see their new North American offerings. Situated next to the GT-R, Nissan unveiled a US-ready left hand drive version of their Cube, a car that has been offered in Japan for years.

FYI - Here's a link to the specs. For those who care more about what's under the hood, it's got a 30+ mpg/122-hp 1.8-L 4-cylinder Engine

Sorry to be a party-pooper, but a box is not the best shape to use if good fuel economy is desired through reduced air resistance. This is not the time to be introducing box-shaped cars. Especially now.

It could be fun, turbo, less restrictive exhaust, variable rate struts, just to name a few easy things. Big Block would be even more fun, but just a bit radical.

Butt fugly.

It may well get 30 mpg at 30 mph, but at 70 mph ? Forget it.

Scion has a 'toaster' vehicle as well, kids love it. This will go over very well in the 'go fast' market, where the stereo Hp is more important than the engine Hp.

I love the look of the new Cube as the boxy, funky styling reminds me a larger more useful Smart Car. The only feature that I'm not so excited about is the grill with the BullDog wearing glasses look. I am looking forward to my chance to drive one soon.
