Another 158 TV Stations to Kill Analog Early

Posted March 18, 2009 11:10 AM

From Yahoo! News: Technology News:

Regulators have cleared 158 TV stations around the country to shut down their analog broadcast signals before June 12, when the remaining full-power stations will end theirs. Most of the stations going early are in smaller markets and don't broadcast any of the four major commercial networks. Exceptions include the NBC and ABC affiliates in Denver, which are shutting analog on April 16. The list was released by the Federal Communications Commission late Tuesday.

We are wasting money every day that we keep those analog signals going, not to mention the millions of dollars in converter boxes the government is giving out.

You do realize that the aliens far off in outer space who are just now receiving and monitoring our first analog TV broadcasts are going to be highly ticked off in a few decades when our digital changeover causes them to miss their favorite shows.

As a courtesy and to ward off their subsequent invasion, we should start packing a handful of the converter box coupons into all of our space probes.

When I visit my parents home I use a tiny 6" BW TV in the bedroom as a white noise generator to help me sleep. I noticed on this last trip, after the change (in Dallas) to digital, there's no more static in the TV band. It's eerie.

I WANT MY STATIC BACK!!!

I forget what white noise is now exactly, but years ago, we amplified a Zener diodes noise to produce white or pink noise for such applications as you need (sleep) or for early experiments in pain suppression....

Let me look on the web for a moment......

With a short Google I have found you the perfect web site with noises to play with and downloads as well as CDs........you should not need your static any more ever again!!!

There are a few other sites with schematics and software downloads. Have fun.....
