The city of Bozeman abruptly suspended the practice Friday, saying it "appears to have exceeded that which is acceptable to our community."

And this came as a surprise?

Sorry my friend, but 1884 was too early (both calendar and Orwell's) for internet boom.

It's a pity, but I think we have overpass 1984 (at least for 25 years).

Cynic regards

This wouldn't have worked even if they did keep it their requirements. I can understand the city wanting to avoid hiring some way out there wacko that post racist and or hate blogs on the web. But the few people that are stupid enough to give them their actual site info, if they are into these type of things, shouldn't be hired in the first place. They would be to dumb to do the job.

How are they going to verify that these are the ONLY web sites these people use. I keep my life pretty simple I use the same name or minor variations of it on all my accounts. If you do a search for one of my names you'll come up with many post that are mine but there are many that aren't too. I have a name for professional use and my name for personal use. But if I were one of those TROLLS that like to wander around starting fights, I'd have more than a few names to use just to cover my tracks.

As far as an invasion of privacy goes on this issue. I seem to remember all the hub bub when drug testing first started becoming part of the job interview process. Now everyone expects it to be part of the work place environment. So if your willing to sign the contract with these restrictions then you deserve to be scrutinized. When our company implemented the random drug screening there was a huge up-roar too. Some even quit. Gee! I wonder if they quit because it intruded on their rights or because they wouldn't pass the screening?
