Smaller Text in CR4

06/23/2015 11:31 PM

Did the text size just get dramatically smaller in CR4, or did something happen in my computer?

The text suddenly got smaller a few days ago. Now I can't read it without using some form of magnification. I haven't found any way to change the text size in either Firefox or Safari.

try Ctrl + scrolling the mouse.
try internet explorer (just a try - no endorsement)

I had some issues on my mobile phone. Chrome works.

It seems they changed the frames. As the whole web site is getting larger and smaller now - dissimilar from what is was before.

You nailed that one! Control+scroll worked perfectly!

I must have somehow done it unknowingly, scrolling down in size...

I'm on a Mac. It's been around 20 years since I abandoned IE. If there is a current Mac version, I'm not aware of it.

Thanks!

Not that far, but you need to relax a bit, try to be less of a 'control freak.'

(and adding that to the list exhausts my supply of fresh control puns.)

I just tried it in Safari. It does NOT work there. I nearly always use Firefox, because it has the toolbar, while Safari does not. Here's one more reason to stay with Firefox!

Of course, the problem would not have occurred in Safari, since its window size does not change with Control-Scroll.

Have checked in the browser 'settings' under 'accessibility' to see if the text size has been change? You should be able to change the text size to what's comfortable for you

Re: Smaller text in CR4

Yep! I have it set to size 14. But as Ideasmith indicated, it's not just the text size that changes, but the entire window. Problem solved.

I don't use a mouse, so in my case it is Control+ two fingers sliding on the trackpad. The important thing is it works!

Thanks for your input!

"Shouting in a whisper?"

It's called a Stage Whisper. Any halfway-decent actor can do it.

Slightly more in depth, and in case you don't easily have scrolly mouse wheel capability...

Ctrl + increases text size on a website
Ctrl - decreases text size
Ctrl 0 (that's zero, in case it's not obvious!) will reset it back to the original default

Occasionally I will wonder why a site has a font that seems large, and it's because last time I was there, I increased the size and forgot. ^_^

For Mac users, the same commands work in both Safari and Firefox, using Cmd instead of Ctrl. In Safari the minimum size of text can be set in Preferences > General > Accessibility: never use font sizes smaller than... In Firefox it is at Preferences > Content > Fonts & Colors > Advanced.

"For Mac users, the same commands work in both Safari and Firefox..."

On my Mac (a MacBook Pro), it only works in Firefox, NOT in Safari (ver. 8.0.6). Perhaps it may work using a mouse with a scroll wheel, but I only use a trackpad, with two-finger scroll. In Safari, neither the Cmd nor the Ctrl key has any effect on two-finger drag - it just scrolls. I have several mice around, but did not quickly find one with a scroll wheel to try it.

I've been using Cmd-+ and Cmd-- for a long time, when necessary, but prefer not to, because then I have to be constantly scrolling horizontally to see the sides. I really like the Cmd-Scroll method. In Firefox, either Cmd or Ctrl modify scrolling the same way.

I'm glad I asked the question. I see that quite a few others have benefited as I have!

Sorry, I meant only that the keyboard Cmd +, the keyboard Cmd - and the keyboard Cmd 0 worked in both Safari ver 8.0.6 and Firefox. Nothing to say about interactions with trackpads and mice.

Re: Smaller Text in CR4

You prompted me to explore a bit more... As I indicated previously, I've been using the + and - to enlarge and reduce the screen for quite a while. (Was it first introduced in Mavericks?) But I do it so automatically, that I had forgotten that it is Option-Command Plus and Minus that is built in to the Mac operating system. I was not familiar with Command-0, and now I see why: it is NOT built in to the operating system, and does not work in other applications. ...and neither is the scroll-zoom. I really like the scroll-zoom, because you can quickly control the image size, depending on the need at the moment.

After exploring, I find that most applications will scroll-zoom, but the keys required vary from one application to another, and also depend on the location of the cursor. For example, while my cursor is in this editing window of Firefox, the scroll-zoom does NOT work, and neither does Control-+ or Control-, but Option-Command-+ and Option-Command-- do, because they are built in to the operating system.

If I click anywhere outside the edit window, then the Control-scroll-zoom works. Option-scroll also changes the image size, but in a different way.

In Word, Control-scroll-zoom does not work, but Option-scroll does. Finally, in my CAD program, I have to use all three modifiers (Control-Option-Command-scroll).

In any case thanks again to IdeaSmith for teaching most of us something new! I see he's up to 7 GA points for that post, and rightly so!

That happens to me. I know about 'ctl +' and 'ctl -' It should help you.

To ideaSmith#1.

i didn't know about 'ctl scroll'. That works great for me. Age related poor eye focus and changing glasses is a nuisance.

And Mello #14.

I didn't know about 'ctl 0' (zero)

Both have added a new dimension to my life. Both worth a GA.

Re: Smaller Text in CR4

Useful tips about ctl and scroll already posted are a great help but it prompts me to raise a further question about the the scroll button itself.

Mine is hardly visible and hard to find because it is the same colour as the scroll bar (but maybe a fraction darker) but none of my attempts to change the button colour have worked, except to change the whole Windows colour scheme, then I end up with a scroll button and bar both the same colour, of little contrast, so still hard to see.

Any ideas please.

Yes, you are right. It works for me as well - and it seems I don't need to 'find' the scroll button in this context. Thanks.

It works with CR4 and especially useful for zooming in on small pics. It works with .pdf and Word .doc files, but not in my Access files.
