Incorrect Score for Good Answers?

06/24/2015 6:41 AM

TO: CR4 ADMN

This posting is NOT WITH AN INTENTION of FAULT FINDING or BLAMING ANYBODY or THE SYSTEM.

I have replied a thread on 22nd June 2015 and two Threads on 23rd June 2015. All the three threads given below indicates SCORE for GOOD ANSWER. - three for steam flow.

Before replying the threads (given below) the Good Answers Score for me was 40, and after these 3 Good answers the score should be 43 where as it is showing only 41. What I understand is the good answer is a notional one and it s not compulsory to indicate the capacity of anybody or the participant and no superiority complex should be felt. Only satisfaction is WE HAVE SHARED OUR KNOWLEDGE and beyond this I do not feel any thing.

My message is how accounting is slipped. A similar situation happened about 15 days back as good answer but did not add up. Earlier few G.As (about 6) were reduced and it was explained by CR4 MEMBERS, how it could have happened. Whether GA is given or not - my considered opnion is "WE ARE ABLE TO SHARE OUR EXPERIENCE and ALSO GET ADVISE FROM CR4 MEMBERS.

I request CR4 ADMN not to mistake me - it s purely for understanding purpose only.

The posting on 22nd and 23rd are as follows.

there may have been a member that down graded one of you good answers.

Like a lot of members here GA may go up or down. GA weight or score. is not looked upon too seriously, but there have been a few members who had left CR4 because of the downgrading..... anyone remember case641....... because I can't..... think its case641.....

I thought it carried as much weight as the 'titles,' and for those who may not remember the thread on 'post-guru titles, I was the one who suggested (in various languages, so as to not give the joke away too quickly) weisenheimer, know-it-all know-nothing, and 'smart-a--" as people who were reaching a level beyond guru.

Since you can get a GA for an insightful answer to a perplexing problem, a funny response to a 'Caption this' thread, or for a particularly creative snark at AP#1 and his 'stupid question of the day,' the GA and titles are like that game show, Whose Line is it Anyway? "Where everything is made up and the points don't mater."

I got a tee shirt for reaching 100 GA's,... unfortunately, on the post where I got to 100 GA's, I only got 2 GA's on that post..... so the tee shirt was a small...., and now one more GA I''ll be at 200, I was told I'll get a hat.

I just hope my next post be more that just 2 GA's this time. Otherwise, does this hat make my head look big to you?.

Well now that you mentioned it...it sorta does. Really though, that is an appropriate hat for raiding ranches in Southwest Texas. Good luck with your new endeavor, as I hear they still hang 'em high down there.

Also a good gardening hat if you wish to not have sunburn on those delicate bald spots.

My grandfather was well-acquainted with the Judge Roy Bean. He also knew Mr. White who discovered Carlsbad Caverns, and gramps actually went in there with a kerosine lamp, climbing down barbed wire and fence post ladders. What a wild experience that must have been! I think this was part of the reason Grandma had always such a verdant garden.

I learn something from this site every time I open it and read the posts.

got to agree..

while having a bunch of folk you don't really know other than via this forum, mark your answers and tell you "Yep your a clever boy!", is it really that big a deal?

I look at it as being a bit of fun, and a way of expressing, in your humble opinion, if you like or dislike that comment/answer to the question or point as so posted by the 'OP'.

In a comment, again I have to agree, if we were getting paid for a 'GA', then who would not be pissed if someone downgraded an answer.

I checked my answers, and found I got quite a few 'almost good'.... am I good with that.. Hell yeah!

This also goes back to a previous topic of if we should still have the grading, that is, guru etc, etc.

Who cares?.. this is a forum to get some clarity to ones understanding on a topic or subject from those who can share their thoughts and experience.

Your solve a problem posted and receive 1 GA, and because you solve the problem, the thread dies, everyone moves on, removing any possibility of getting 2nd confirming GA.... Your 1 ga to solving the problem carries more weight that some,..... Or a lot of 2 confirmed GA that I've seen...... Take the confirming ga's of this thread for an example.

I agree completely.

Anyone here just for GAs is in the wrong place.......they should go elsewhere.....perhaps thats why someone took them off, to teach him a bit of "Humble Pie"....

I find actually almost find more "recognition" when one of the CR4 W****KERS" gives me an OT, as I then know that "I got up his nose!!" for some reason that only HE understands.....or I was replying to an unfriendly, bad mannered comment HE MADE!!

That REALLY makes me laugh!

As to GAs, I haven't a clue how many I have, as its nice to get, but its not the "be all to end all".

In fact, the CR4-ers I have respect for, all seem to be of a similar opinion.....

Andy....? Have you been messing with my GA's again? Shame on you! That is the only place in the world where I get some sort of affirmation that I am alive and kicking.

NOT! I totally agree with you on this one, shocker that this is. You know, for being such a disagreeable S.O.B., you really aren't a bad sort. Maybe someday you can invite me over to Frankfurt for beer, schnitzel, and a tour of the Eurofighter, or whatever you are working on. Not that I could really afford a trip to Germany on the pittance they pay me for sitting here and not working.

Your posts in the "Gasket ..." and "Vacuum CB .." threads are only rated "almost" good answers (with one vote), therefore do not add to your total GA score. As Phoenix said, they may have been GAs but were down-rated by another member or members.

We've had this discussion before.

It is an artifact of the forum.

Anyone can cancel a GA, at any time, for any reason.

I wouldn't loose any sleep over "Good Answer) counts. Here, Good Answers are worth about as much as "Attaboys"

If you are unfamiliar with attaboys, 100 attaboys=√(-1 O_Crap), yes, they are imaginary.

I don't know how many times I have composed a well thought out replay, just chock full of wisdom and knowledge, and have it completely ignored. Then received unanimous Good Answers for some stupid wise crack I submitted.

Goodwill does not sell stolen goods, I picked up an X-ray machine for 5 bucks. I haven't used it much since my hair started falling out.

Crikey Dhaya,

Most of your answers are pretty good and relevant, sometimes you are totally right but not relevant......like most of us struggling with the OP's request for help.

You spent a lot of time preparing this post....must be important to you I guess.

But, in my opinion it just looks like an accounting error, or a GA that was rescinded for some reason by another poster. I Think OT trumps GA in this deck of cards.

You're dealing with an accountant, albeit a robotic one, so why waste any energy. There's just no reasoning with them........(until you invoice them for your hours while waiting for a payment that was promised by their boss on certain date and time. Boss takes over, pays, buys lunch, says very sorry and you never see that accountant in the office again.)

Re: Incorrect Score for Good Answers?

I see a lot of answers here like "who cares?", "it dosn't matter" and "it's not a big deal". Yes, I agree and dhayanandhan agrees too. He just asks why this happens. Admins should be able to give him an answer. If there is no bug in the system then a "down-grading" (negative votes) must have happened.

Personally, I never "down-graded" a GA even in the case that this answer is not good at all. I, also, accept the fact that I don't get a GA easily, no matter how much good an answer of mine actually is. It's a fact that some CR4 members gets a GA much easier than others. It's a fact that many funny (but otherwise useless) answers get a GA too. Also, if a member has already a lot of GAs, it's easier for him to get more GAs in the future (as everyone thinks that he must be a guru). So, yes, the amount of GAs doesn't correspond to the actual value of a member. So, keep on share your knowledge and experience with the others. This really matters.

Dear DHAYANANDHAN.S,

You should be using the CR4 Executive site. (CR4E+). Accumulation of good answers there are rewarded with prime parking spaces.

Blue light special on aisle 7. (That's were they keep the GA's) the blue light special, is something that a regional store had at Christmas time in the 60's/70's. KMart or Shopko, I can't recall it been so long.

I started reading from the top and all I could see were GAs for every single post and thought to myself, yeah got to get in of some of that action.

Of course it helps when an entire thread doesn't get deleted by admin, lost about 70 good quality posts. Lyn I know you know which recent thread I am talking about, I was the only positive one on it.

There was a young man from Kent,

Who had a prick that was bent,

So to save himself trouble,

He put it "in" double,

and instead of "coming", he "WENT"!!!

(Kent is a county in southern England by the way...)

In a rather contorted way, it sometimes does. Say someone has 1 GA on a post (making it "almost" good). If you then add one, to give them 2 (a full-blown GA ), you can't just take it away to get back to 1, you can only change the GA you awarded to an OT, thereby reducing their score to 0.

(You can try it with this post if you like - I won't cry if it ends up OT).
