I have done a bit of research. I am aware of danger with hydrogen gas. My concern would be with regulating gas as in use as automotive fuel

It may be interesting to you as a novelty, but it won't work.

The additional load on your alternator to "split" the H2O will offset any fuel mileage gains you MIGHT realize.

Ahh. See the numerous previous threads on CR4 regarding water electrolysis and the addition of hydrogen gas into internal combustion engines (vehicle and aeroplane) as many of us have been over this many times over the years on CR4.

The short answer is.........the addition of Hydrogen in to the air fuel mixture can be slightly beneficial BUT you will not save money on petrol as producing Hydrogen through water electrolysis uses far MORE petrol than it saves AND bottled hydrogen gas costs more to produce than it can save in MPG fuel savings.

If you are careful you can use bottled Hydrogen gas into the air stream but you will need to be very, very careful. The method is similar to how vehicle Nitrous Oxide injection systems work (just far MORE dangerous). Not sure how legal it is however.

As of this year, Toyota is selling cars in California that run on Hydrogen. They have also spent millions of dollars setting up refill stations. Toyota has been selling fork trucks that run all day on hydrogen for more than 10 years.

Honda sells a hydrogen splitter that takes hydrogen from natural gas. Not really a very green way of obtaining hydrogen, but these are for sell on the market.

There are special design considerations for using hydrogen as a fuel. Lots of people have tried to promote using it as a booster for gasoline engines but that is mostly a lot of bunk and a good way to have an engine fire.

Be patient. The market will take us there if it turns out to be a good idea.

When I was a kid, my kid brother and I use to make hydrogen gas in this manner. We'd hook up 2 wires to our model railroad transformer and use 2 plastic test tubes.

Oh boy, did we ever like to blow-up stuff. Naturally, my mom freaked out, since we were doing this grand experiment on the kitchen table and thought we'd burn down the house.

My dad on the other hand, would laugh and laugh, and even joined in the fun!

As Lyn has indicated it is very simple, they commonly teach and demonstrate this in school (extracted both from air chemically and from water by electricity).

Look at safety measurements first. H2 is not to play with.

We must first know the purpose or intended use....If it's for your car, forget that it doesn't work....If it's for a fuel cell, then what size? How much hydrogen will you need? Is it for a hobby size or do you need commercial quantities? What is your budget? Do you want plans to build it yourself, or a kit, or a turn key solution?

Maybe a little misleading? Toyota currently offers a hydrogen powered car on the market and I am guessing other car manufacturers may also which is probably driving the OP's sudden interest.

Can you imagine attempting the results from use of a propane injection system for introducing hydrogen into the engine of any vehicle?

I am sure there will be many such endeavors in the future that will result in horrendous explosions which will not only affect the originator but also everyone around them for a very large area.

Do they have a really hot model, perhaps called the "Hindenburg"?

However it's done, don't forget that it will take more energy than you get from burning the hydrogen.

Back in the 1970's a guy came through Ocala Florida in a Cadillac that he claimed ran on water. He had a hydrolysis set up in the trunk. I doubt anyone ever really took him seriously since he was spotted putting gas in the tank.

Take two sheets of clear glass,with a gap in between,and sealed,except for the top.

Fill the gap with iron oxide(rust) powder.

Put in direct sunlight.

The gas emitted will be Hydrogen.
