What is This??

08/06/2015 1:43 PM

I found this while clearing brush on the edge of a field. It appears to be some type of axle with maybe a brake mechanism...the are "foot" pedals on it for sure. It's all "wrought iron" I believe...no distinguishing markings found yet.

This field was used as a training ground in the civil war period.

It's a nineteenth-century spaniel carrier. One end goes in its mouth and the other....

The objects coming up these days are much more interesting than the old toot that PlbMak used to come up with in the days of the Friday afternoon picture quizzes. Keep 'em coming!

:-D

This is the the closest I've found so far. The "pedals" are probably steps. Now I see how it was assembled. I'll keep looking...

I'll bet the Amish could identify it in a flash. Email them the pic.

Actually there are companies that do restorations that I may send a picture. Not too many Amish in this particular area although there is a community not too far away. There are still a lot of "old timers" around that may know as well. The local agricultural fairs are going on now, so I'll take some additional pictures and have them with me when I go, maybe it's worth more than scrap prices!
