Transformer and Generator Running in Parallel

09/30/2015 2:50 AM

Whether transformer and generator can be synchronized or run in parallel to same load?

Hello Tornado,

Could you please explain me in breif how it possible?

I do have concept in parallelism that frequency, voltage and phase angle should be same.

How these three condition possible in sychronizing transformer and generator?

Think about it. The entire National Grid operates in this way, Mildred! Did you miss a few lectures, or something?

You could start with one of these!

Dear Mr. vikashkumar.

You could have provided more details about load/demand

Technically the answer for your question is Yes. You can run alternator and transformer in parallel. After synchronisation of alternator with transformer, the alternator and transformer can take load. The load sharing between Transformer and Alternator will be in accordance with the Voltage Droop Character.

If by chance transformer droop character is small, then it will share more load, and possiblity of over loading will take place. The same point applies to alternator also - that is small droop character the alternator will get overloaded.
