Isn't suppose to be rainbows has a semi circle formation. What made it appear like that, seems abnormal, nowadays

Re: Crazy Rainbow

A rainbow within its normal sense is produced by sunlight on raindrops, is circular in shape (the lower the sun is in the sky, the more of the circle we see), is always in the opposite direction to the sun, ie you are facing away from the sun to see the rainbow, and the central point of the semicircle is your head, ie. your point of reference. It cannot appear anywhere else for you, but another rainbow will appear at a slightly different location for another observer and, unfortunately, because its centre is always at your head, it's impossible to find the pot of gold as you can't ever get to the end

For a primary rainbow, the top or red colour will always appear at an angle of 42 degrees to the angle of the sunlight coming in from behind you, the blue will be at an angle of 40 degrees, all other colours are situated between these two.

What you are likely seeing there is a chemtrail rainbow, contrail rainbow, vortice rainbow or simply ice crystal reflection.

The first two are caused by moisture freezing on chemicals in the air and reflecting light in its various wavelengths. The vortice rainbow is caused by the reduction in pressure as air passes over the top of an aircraft's wing. The reduction in pressure in accordance with Boyle's law causes a reduction in temperature, the moisture in the air freezes and light is reflected as previously stated. The odd shape is then caused by the trail being diffused by uneven winds just as most contrails do. Ice crystals reflect light in various patterns but rarely in a regular manner as in a standard rainbow.

Hope this helps.

Probably some atmospheric thermal inversions between the mist and the observer.

It's not a rainbow, of course.

It's more like an 'ice bow', but it's not a bow. These phenomena are commonly called 'sun dogs' and occur due to refraction of sun light through a layer of ice crystals high in the sky. The same optical refraction that causes the spectrum of a rainbow is what causes the spectrum in a sun dog.

What an amazing coincidence that the rainbows in the OP and post 3 are identical.

Must be a man made time warp.

Well, he'll probable show up, sooner or later. ;)

---

Okay, that time-travel joke might be a bit obscure, especially if you're nor completely fluent in English sentence structure and idioms. Consider the smirk to be tacking on an unspoken 'than now' after 'later' to get the double meaning.

Then again, Whoovians would probably get the joke without even thinking about it, even though the second meaning turns the sentence into a sort of wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey mess: If he's going to show up yesterday, wouldn't we already have known about it? Unless he hasn't been then yet, in which case we would not know about him having made a trip he hasn't made yet... ACK! The first casualty of time travel is always verb tense.

Oh that timey-wimey sure causes most folks problems...especially those speaking some variation of English and all it's tenses.

There are places in the Universe where they aren't so tense and it's much easier to pop in and out over periods of time without them getting all confused.

Re: Crazy Rainbow

This gives me the opportunity to check some rainbow information. What is normally seen is the primary rainbow, but there is also a secondary rainbow seen above (I think) the primary rainbow; it is fairly frequently seen, is quite a bit dimmer, and has reversed colors.

Then there is the tertiary rainbow seen when looking toward the sun. This is apparently quite rare, since I have seen it once in my life--pointed out by my Father many decades ago.

Sorry, couldn't help myself there.
