Elevators

11/04/2015 8:08 PM

helo... we to install an elevator in the near future in our establishment... and the elevator we propose needs a supply of 415 volts, 3-phase 4 wire 50 hz... and we have only 230 volt 3-phase 4 wire 60hz... should we take another transformer for its supply...?

Get the elevator manufacturer to supply a motor that matches your grid, or get another manufacturer.

Hook it to the lightning arrestor system.

What?????

The post says: needs a supply of 415 volts, 3-phase 4 wire 50 hz... and we have only 230 volt 3-phase 4 wire 60hz..

What is a 1 phase to 3 phase converter going to do for the OP?

While the motor is a critical part of the life safety system of an elevator, you also have to be sure that every single relay, microprocessor, timing motor, etc. operates properly on the lower frequency. You are taking a huge risk in assuming that you can simply do-it-yourself and use a transformer...and don't forget to connect the grounding system to the home-made lightning and surge suppression systems. This is a fuster-cluck from the get-go.

Sounds like someone requisitioned " an elevator" and purchasing bought the cheapest one they could get.

Who marked this is "Off topic"?

It is a valid follow-up question, and the answer would allow us to help Mr, Yhang much better.

(Quoting for those who have 'off-topic' posts auto-hidden')

Do you seriously think that that individual could offer valid technical advice on any subject whatsoever?

Honestly? No.

But that doesn't make the ATTEMPT to get more information 'off topic,' after all, we could be plesantly surprised to get another tidbit of info that would eliminate half of the Wild Mass Guessing.

It's about as likely as be getting a multi-billion dollar record deal for my recitation of the script for Waiting for Godot in badly-accented Klingon, but that's still within the probability bell curve, WAY off at the end of the bell curve with almost zero chance, but 'almost zero' is still non-zero.

And if one of these people DO eventually give an intelligent bit of follow-up data, then I'll start brushing up my Beckett and learning to speak Klingon.

No you should stop make proposals.

Why spec out a piece of equipment for power you do not have availible to you.

I believe if the manufacture is made aware of your needs they can make the necessary changes.

I do not know what country you are located in but here in the USA changes cannot be made to any elevator unless written permission and approval is received from the original equipment manufacturer.

50 hz mostly used in UK or Asia. 60 hz for USofA. I don't know of any converter that large to make it compatible but you have a voltage problem also. Step up transformer.

I believe there are converters large enough, but I wouldn't suggest it unless there is someone more knowledgeable to rely on. As stated before (above), this is very dangerous for unqualified people.
