I guess these tests convinced them that fighter jets needed to have enclosed cockpits.

So he looked like this (at the beginning of the film clip) before. Now we know the rest of the story: This fellow went on to become the 37th U.S. president, the only one ever to resign as commander-in-chief, Richard Milhous Nixon (U.S. Navy), actually did enter the Navy after resigning from Roosevelt's Office of Price Administration (wow).

Serving as an aviation ground officer in the Pacific, Nixon saw no combat, but he returned to the United States with two service stars and several commendations.

After the wind tunnel, we now understand how he got the flapping jowls.
