What Will You Do To Celebrate New Year's Eve; Any Resolutions?

Greet the new year with high hopes for world peace and prosperity for all.

A good steak with all the trimmings then a toast to the New Year arrival with family and friends.

Yep, the bubbly will come out!

Resolutions? I am going to finish remodeling my home and get into better physical shape.

It took me 20 hours this last Sunday and Monday to travel from Owasso in NE-Central Oklahoma through Texas and New Mexico back to Arizona.

I had to travel secondary roads because the freeways were all closed or suffering stop & go traffic at less than 20MPH. (Fifty feet- Stop; 100 Feet - Stop)

If I had not known what roads bypass the freeways I would probably still be somewhere in Texas.

Definitely the most hazardous and worst trip of my life so far.

Answer: Anywhere there is inclement weather occurring. They seem to flock to the storm areas. Most are either driving too fast or driving too slow and very few are traveling in control at a safe effective speed for the road conditions.

The new number is 191 and it runs South to North in Eastern Arizona along the New Mexico border eventually crossing Route 66/I40 in the Northeast part of the state and kinda terminates at the Utah border.

The proof is when you get to a stoplight that there are always more stopped cars at the light when it is raining. ;-)

Last Wednesday we had over 10" of snow. The roads were plowed out on the emergency roads, such as to the hospital. Which we live about 100 yards from. After waiting for the snowplow, for about 4 hours. I took the snow blower and blew to the road which I could get to the interstate to go to work about 40 miles away..

The first 5 miles, I stopped counting the vehicles in the ditch including (2) semi's, (not including the (7) parked on the side of the road.)

I would have turned around, but the on/off ramps were hard to find.

The roads were rough but travelable 20-40 MPH.

It was basically the first snowstorm of the year, and usually you'll find cars in the ditch on the first snowstorm, But this was redicules. After seeing the first one, should bring caution to mind.

People just can't drive.

I remember a 12"+ deep snowfall and driving a 1990 Carrera 4 in the snow when I spotted a pickup truck in the ditch, so I lent a hand.

The guy looked at the car, shaking his head in disbelief, and asked me what the hell I was doing out here. I told him I was getting him the hell out of here.

Lol,... snow story's, I like snow story's. I have one....

Came into work early after a snow storm,.. And a strange truck was parked in the yard at work with the hood open,... And the engine compartment was packed full of snow... I asked if he needed help and he responded, no thanks we did enough?

Turned out, he ran in the ditch with his new truck, and someone pulled him out, and left him on the road, broadside... And my co-worker dam near ran in to him.

Well, he had a story,

Other than being stranded and got pulled out and abandoned in the middle of the road.

He just bought the truck.

He was just laid off 2 weeks prior

His hound dog just die the last week, (this was true, I could see it in his eyes he was stressed).

And his wife filed for divorce.

After he left the office and went back to cleaning out his engine compartment, I told my co-worker that he should put his story to music, it has the makings of a number one country hit.

Of course, I didn't tell this poor soul. But my co-worker thought that was so funny, he went out and told him anyways.... Which he didn't see the humor in it.

Poor fella, hope it worked out for him..... I was listening to the radio, and I thought I heard his song.

I think the wife and I will go to an India restaurant for dinner on Thursday. Stay up and watch the various objects that drop at midnight all around the world. Bubbly will be non-boozy variety. Hoping for a better world next year, but then again we have elections here in the USA so it will be a circus for most of it! Relatives show up here on Friday and stay for a week...they stay in the guest house so it's not much of an inconvenience...and we get to eat a lot!

It looks like we will be going to an outdoor rock concert.

No, that is not a family tradition.

They do have a cash bar and I will be bringing cash.

Tomorrow's weather will be mostly sunny and a high in the mid 80s with a low of 73° at midnight and no rain.

The only thing I resolve to do is to enjoy myself and the company of my friends and hope for some kind of repeat next year.

Oops, significant other just came down with what seems to be a bad case of the flu!

My revised schedule is now staying at home waiting on her needs as she recovers.

I think she would prefer the hang over originally planned.

Sorry to hear about the flu. Why not toast the New Year with a glass of hot milk topped up with lashings of brandy (or whisky or rum...). Then a warm bed to sleep it off.

I'll get her whatever she wants. I just bought a bottle of Chimay Blue.

No longer much of a person going out anymore. As far as celebrating, a few weeks ago, I bought a 3D printer... Using that Making a few projects,... Now-a-days Using that is like celebrating for me.

No resolutions for me; or my wife. No lively or rowdy party celebrations for us. Just by ourselves and a quiet toast at midnight to see the New Year in, and a phone call to our children to wish them well - and a text or email to other family members.

As for the New years eve there is a long tradition in the family (over 2 generations already) to go to the opera, to a musical or to a concert.

This year we shall go see a well know musical: "Singing in the Rain".

Several years ago we went for instance to the New years eve concert of the Wiener Philharmonic.

I plan on going to be early and hoping not to be disturbed by all the mid night celebration.

I will declare my normal New Year's resolution not to make New Year's resolutions for New Years.

That will soon be followed by my annual not to give up anything for Lent for Lent declaration.

In other words, a normal New Year's Eve, which I pretty much slumber through since I quit serious drinking and partying about 20 years ago.

We just celebrated with a very nice steak (and lobster for the wife - I don't care for seafood) dinner, and watched the fireworks in Valparaiso (on Chile TV). Since she has to get up at 4:30 tomorrow morning to go to work, and I rarely stay awake past 10PM, it's now off to bed. (8:40PM,PST)

We go to the place of worship ( Church/ Temple/ Mosque )and pray for peace on the globe. When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace.( Interesting Quote).

We ate Lunch at our new favorite restaurant. Went home and had some Moscato wine. Watched some idiots celebrate New Years Eve on TV, then went off to bed.

The usual--stay home where we don't have to worry about drunk drivers. Used to try to be in bed by midnight, and do what comes naturally, but that hasn't happened recently. New Year's Day we have sauerkraut and pork (hot dogs for me) and probably mashed potatoes.

This is after the fact but...

We were invited to a party hosted by a friend who brews some very good beer BUT it turned out that my wife had to work on New Years and we both had colds so that venture was out.

On New Years, she had to work until 7:00 pm so she called to see if I would like to go out for Prime Rib to celebrate BUT her relief tech didn't show up at 7:00 so she had to stay at work 'till 9:00 (when her relief showed up) and by then the restaurant was closed.

Today she is "On Call" at the hospital so I am hoping that maybe tonite we can go for prime rib.

Why do I have the urge to get well intoxicated??

Well I did not go to be early as I had stated in an earlier comment. I stayed up with my two kids playing Yahtzee. My wife, however, turned in at 10:00 PM....exhausted.

You may not be drinking until dawn like the old days, but you can still get to the bewitching hour!

Now that I think of it, the only times I get to make it to dawn is when crunch time runs overtime at work. :-/

I think a good resolution for '16 would be not to have to do that any more.

Yeah, I hear you. Unfortunately, getting the management at work to sign off on such a resolution is next to impossible.

Wait....that's not really accurate. Management will gladly approve of such a resolution because they have no hesitation in violating it when it becomes necessary.

And upon mulling it over, neither do it. The organization I work for don't abuse the employees all that much. They only occasionally requite OT and off shift hours

Yes Lyn - being a director is a lonely thankless life, especially as an engineer in your own company, as I am.... but is has it's moments.....and I wouldn't change it for the World...

I'm late to the discussion because I was driving from East Tennessee back to upstate NY on January 1 (and visiting with relatives on New Year's Eve).

Our customary New Year's Day meal (traditionally eaten around bowl game schedules) consists of black-eyed peas cooked with the bone left from the Christmas ham, greens, and corn bread. Sometimes we have rice, more often not. Supposedly the peas bring luck and the greens bring money. This hasn't ever worked for me, but I do like the food.

We use to enjoy having family over, watching Dick Clark's New Years' Rockin' Eve, but it's just not the same anymore. So, we keep it small and play board games and generally lament over the past year's experiences. With my wife's father passing shortly after Thanksgiving, there was a somber undertone to this year's event.

Chicken Paprikash on New Years' Eve, and Corned Beef and Cabbage on New Years Day. No real family traditions, though we instilled in our kids that it is a great time to memorialize your goals and objective (not necessary resolutions) for the next year by writing them down. And for the most part, I think it has become habit with most of them, which is good.

But, we do have a personal tradition that the wife and I do, we wrote our own vows when we were married and we re-read them to each other shortly after midnight.

Not much of a drinker, no toast were made. As 90% of our family is in the eastern time zone, but we're central - we kind of celebrate an hour early and then spend the next hour trying to stay awake for the local event. This year's was tough though as it was a live concert by the B52's... they REALLY need to retire already.

In closing, I did have a Holiday Resolution which was mostly successful (a couple TV events) I 'unplugged', which is why it has taken till now to see/respond to this.
