Looks the same! Maybe sand from a different beach as I cannot see the precious stones that are in the first picture!

A slip hazard. They need tidying up and putting away before someone goes base-over-apex on them.

So why this subject for a "What is(are) this(they)?

I have known about them for a long time, but there's sooooo much I didn't know! They are so, variable, yet have a recognizable structure. I think that they are the most fascinating gemstone.

Thanks for the post.

The most impressive 'opal' i ever saw was an opalised dinosaur skeleton. It was over a meter long and on display in a jewelers window in Perth.

I am not sure if this is the same one;-
