Since we have pi day and square root day, let's just go ahead and run it into the ground!

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't after you!

( As can the rest of us too. But there must be some sort of numerology disease, because I have it. As a way to 'entertain' myself on long drives, I enjoy the various number patterns that show up on the odometer. One of my favorites is one hundred twenty-three thousand, four hundred fifty-six. Yes, I'm certifiable and there is probably a 12-step process for it.)

I'm just as sad. I can remember most of the UK telephone dialling codes, and I practise on car number plates as I drive. In theory there are about 700 of them, from 01200 to 01999 (8 sheets, 90 to a sheet) but about 10% aren't used. Also they've somewhat spoilt my fun by changing the codes and putting some whole areas, eg Northern Ireland, under one code.

When I was working if somebody had a company's phone number but didn't know where they were based, they would shout across the office "Hey where's 01752?" (say) and I would shout back Plymouth. Or the other way round. I've got a bit rusty since I retired.

Then there are the London 0207 and 0208 codes and Nuneaton has 02476...

Getting rusty too, had to look that one up! Glad I'm not alone

Agreed, but I didn't want to bore with too many details! There are now 0203 numbers, also London area. 02476 is for Coventry, but it covers surrounding areas including Nuneaton as you say (Nuneaton used to be 0682 at one time, but I think it changed to the earlier Coventry code 0203 sometime before the system changed and the extra 1 was added). Also 0121 (B'ham) through 0161 (Manchester) and 0191 (Newcastle on Tyne) are extra, but easy to remember. Then there are 0113 (Leeds) through 0118 (Reading), but the previous codes (0532 Leeds......0734 Reading, and 0632 Newcastle) are no longer used so come off the total.

Now the whole of N Ireland (I believe) has 028....., Cardiff area 029 (Cardiff was 0222) and Southampton/Portsmouth area 023, which also takes a lot of codes off the list.

Good to hear I'm not the only phone nerd around

My favorite time of day (am or pm ) is 12:34. It just makes me smile. My friends are looking for the 12-step and are plotting an intervention.

Binary power is 2 to the n power - right? Well where are 1 and 2? I see n=2, 3, 4. Doesn't n=0 and 1 apply? Am I missing something here?
