Automatic Power Factor Correction Panel

04/25/2016 2:02 AM

Hello All,

Please tell me what are the parameter to segregate capacitors bank in Capacitor panel?

To be more precise suppose we do have separate 30KVAR, 20KVAR, 15 KVAR, 10KVAR capacitors bank in Capacitor Panel. What are the parameter that we have segregated 30KVAR, 20KVAR, 15 KVAR, 10KVAR capacitors bank in capacitor panel.

Thanks

Vikash

Fuses or circuit breaker, and contactor, for each capacitor, with some logic to "decide" how many KVAR are needed at any given time.

Please describe to the forum the outcome of the telephone call that has taken place to the original equipment manufacturer.

"Automatic capacitor banks consist of stages controlled by a power factor controller which ensures that the required capacitor power is always connected to the system, it means that always would be optimal correction "

"The relevant Standards on this device recommend a continuous overload capacity of 30%. A capacitor can have a tolerance of up to +15% in its capacitance value. All current-carrying components such as breakers, contactors, switches, fuses, cables and busbar systems associated with a capacitor unit or its banks, must therefore be rated for at least 1.5 times the rated current."

My question is The total 75 KVAR is required. We are dividing it as 30,20,15,10KVAR, so what parameter we are following to segregated it to 30,20,15,10KVAR

It is described as <...automatic...>, which means that the expressed concern is superfluous, as the equipment sorts itself out.

By combining these in various ways, you can get many increments of 5kvar, and thus cater to most motor combinations. An even better combination here could be 40, 20, 10, 5. Then you could get every 5kvar step from 5 to 75.

<...we...> could always use the telephone to speak directly to capacitor bank panel suppliers. Given that <...we...> indicates there is more person at the facility, several phone calls to different suppliers could take place simultaneously. As telephone calls are 2-way, they enable both parties to the call to ask questions and doing so means that understanding is reached quickly during the call. This technique is by far the fastest way to determine the missing information.

CR4 does not offer training in the use of the telephone.

One could always get entrepreneurial and fix that for a small sum.

Your question should be:

Is the 75 kVAR required?

A parameter is your power factor.

This you can only know by monitoring the power factor and change the values to your best approach. Your bank gives you possibilities to switch to to the following values:

10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 (20+15), 40 (30+10), 45 (20+15+10), 50 (30+20), 50 (20+30), 55 (30+15+10), 60 (30+20+10), 65 (30+20+15), NO 70 () , 75 (30+20+10+15)

Someone has been thinking this together to get a selection (segregation as you call it) to chose from.

Maybe we both have a "English language" problem?

Answer is

segregation depend upon based upon load. Suppose we are having four motor total requirement of KVAR is 75KVAR. segregation is required because four motor do not run at a time. Thus we have segregated capacitors bank into 30KVAR for 1st motor,20KVAR for 2nd motor, 15KVAR for 3rd motor and 10KVAR for 4th motor.

Suppose if we are starting 1st motor then capacitor bank of 30KVAR we will be switch on and like on so..

If for 1st motor we are switching on 75KVAR of capacitor bank then over voltage will cause and will damage the motor. Thus segregation is required.

Not getting you, your motor will not decide which capacitor to switch on but the controller. Combination of KVAR may vary designer to designer and depending upon start-stop sequence of load, PF controller will decide how much KVAR to switch on/off.

Hello Do not considered pf controller . Suppose you are operating capacitor bank manually ie manually capacitor banks is to be start and stop with motor.under that condition we are estimating how much kvar is needed for a motor. For example for 100hp motor how much kvar Is required. So we follow thumb rule talking 33% of hp ie 33 kvar is required for that motor or kvar=Kw(tan@1-tan@2) Where @1 is the pf of motor written on nameplate @2 Is the. Pf required. Suppose there are other motors also then we are estimating there kvar .then all motor required kvar assemble in panel. This is know segregation methodology. Hope now all will understand

OK, somebody may operate it manually, but there is a problem. At design stage you may not know the percentage of loading on motor. PF of motor are different at different percentage of loading. That's why PF controller play a major role to fulfill the very purpose of capacitor.

It is pointless asking the forum what <...we...> are following without defining <...we...>.

Please also define <..parameter...>; give the forum some context, please.

With the listed combination, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65 and 75kVAr are possible by switching various combinations in and out of circuit. The original equipment manufacturer can explain how this is done if it isn't in the Operation Manual, or said manual is not to hand. And if it is not to hand, a simple telephone call to the manufacturer will precipitate a replacement.

Please explain what has been done to obtain this information and why the answer to the question is not in the information obtained.

as of my knowledge, capacitor bank relay works by monitoring the current power factor of system. we just feed the values of individual capacitors i.e 30KVAR or 20 KVAR etc for different step outputs of relay. relay then decides which bank to take into operation according to actual power factor.

you can find digital outputs on relay. these outputs energize magnetic contactor that is connecting the respective KVAR with bus.

your SENITRON ACCUVAR RELAY will take care of it.you only need to have your capacitors wired as per your local wiring requirements .
