Won't be long before the UFCW begin to try to organize these robots... on the basis that robots are people too.

People denied a source of income will turn to theft....which will then lead to robot police because of the high cost of enforcement, which will lead to automated incarceration, which will lead to superhackers, which will lead to revolution, which will lead to Idiocracy...

We are all doomed....

I guess people can demand an income,.... I myself have always felt that an income is earned.

If someone get paid an income of $10,000.00 for $5,000.00 worth of work, good for them.... but don't count on it lasting forever.

For some, they have to demand things like respect and income being they are apparently incapable of earning it like a normal person.

..."51 Percent Of All American Workers Make Less Than 30,000 Dollars A Year"...

"-38 percent of all American workers made less than $20,000 last year.

-51 percent of all American workers made less than $30,000 last year.

-62 percent of all American workers made less than $40,000 last year.

-71 percent of all American workers made less than $50,000 last year.

That first number is truly staggering. The federal poverty level for a family of five is $28,410, and yet almost 40 percent of all American workers do not even bring in $20,000 a year.

If you worked a full-time job at $10 an hour all year long with two weeks off, you would make approximately $20,000. This should tell you something about the quality of the jobs that our economy is producing at this point."...

And what percentage of workers that made less then $10,000/ year .... actually less than $5,000.00/year (mid 80's time frame) when they were age 25 and decided that if they wanted to change that, it was up to them and did.

I know of one.

You seem to have the attitude that nothing has changed in 30 years....or is it just your thinking that has not changed....Yeah you could buy a car for $2500 or a house for $25k and feed a family for $50 a week...Kids toys were $2 or $3...TV was free and telephone bill was cheap....If you were living back then, things would be fine....College was cheap...there was always a neighbor to watch the kids, or a babysitter for a few dollars...gas was $.32 a gallon...and a visit to the doctor was not a financial threat to your family...Yes, things have changed.....

No, but any statistics takes time to establish a trend, you should know that. And if that isn't enough for you how's this.

Any stats on a 44 year old that had a stroke, lost 95% sight in one eye, 50% sight in the other and his right side was basically dead. He had insurance, and when the first hospital bill came paid it all on his credit card to get a 15% discount from the hospital, that was over a $7,500.00 savings. Then turned the receipts over to his insurance only to not only didn't hear from the insurance company but to get dropped soon after.

Spent 5 years self-rehab, sight and side came back but personally jumped job to job, no one wants to hire a liability like that with that kind of health issues.

So to make ends meet, started selling his personal property but as soon as people found out that he was strapped for cash, they tried to get deals.

So he sold what he could and cashed in his IRA's, and when he was healthy enough, he took out a student loan, went back to school, received a business degree,

While simultaneously dealing with the IRS for 10 years for cashing in the IRA's and settling with the IRS in full with no deals.

And is now making a six figure income, with just $8,000.00 left on the student loan. And $6,000.00 remaining in a car loan...

With basically no help from anybody. Except for being able to get a student loan when ones credit was shit.

Well, I know one person who did.

So cry a river on how hard it is today to someone else that may beleive you.

Because Opportunity is STILL HERE TODAY to succeed, but only if you have a passion, and the ability to WORK for it.

But you seem to have an defeatist attitude, and that it's someone's else responsibility to take care of you when the going gets tough.

Even thou Good luck is not a stredegy, but good luck with that anyways.

So you think everybody has the same abilities? The same opportunities? The same energy and drive to succeed?

If you were on a ship that had to be abandoned and you were able to escape to a life raft, and you could see there were several others that were not as strong swimmers, would you sit there and watch them drown shouting I made it, so can you, as they went under? Or would you paddle over to them and help them out of the water?

It's the strong that help the weak, you do what you can...This is a strong nation, but the strength lies in the people as a whole...

Re: I demand you replace me!

Abilities,... I already answered that.

Same opportunities, I already answered that.

Same energy to succeed, what are you talking about, succeeding without trying?

And you putting me in a asinine analogy about decisions being made about abandoning a ship.... I wasn't the one to escape, I was left on ship where I had to learn quickly and make decisions for me to survive.

Your problem is, you underestimate the reserve that people have and by doing so, YOU keep them down. Because you have in your mind of a grandiose Shan Gri La.

Because a lot of the weak your referring to, I mean the weak who blames everyone else for the perdictiment they're in, not from the true reason that they made poor life's choices. 'Poor Life's Choices', Which seems to really rub a lot of people with grandiose visions of paradise the wrong way.

Ok, now you talk about what you call the weak, ok, let's talk about about the true weak, not the ones you have been referring to who can be on a fictitious ship in the first place. But the ones who truly have permanent physical/mental disabilities whether it be birth defect, health issues, accident, war... These people are not analogies, these people need assistant, and justly so. As far as doing something about it, I have in various ways. Not all of it may be to your approval. But the results are a whole lot better.

Because unlike you, I have been there, I have a what works to get them on their feet. Why or how you may ask. Well here's an analogy for you.

Unlike you, I use a smaller paintbrush then you where I don't have a one answer fits all and address the issue that's needed to correct it, whether it's stern and direct, calm and patient or just a helping hand.

I'm going to tell you something that you seemed to have missed, life is great, but bad things can and do happen, and nothing in the world is going to stop bad things from happening.

SE, your a smart man, I think you can figure that out.

Take it a step further,,,, even at $15.00/Hr with your math, it's still only sitting at $30k. But,, then bear in mind that this type of job is rarely full time. If you are lucky enough to get 2 or 3 shifts a week, you are probably lucky. Doing the math if you get 3 "full" shifts a week(again not likely) for the entire year you still only make $18,720.00 .

Doesn't appear to me that the 51% or 38% is going to change any.

Yes and how many of this type of job have health care costs as a benefit?? Not sure in the U.S., but here, the vast majority of part time jobs do not include health care costs, but, the government (we the tax payers) do cover everyone for a lot of basic necessities.

It's actually NOT surprising.

These figures are supplied by the US Social Security Administration. They compile statistics on ALL workers who make more than $400 per year*. I.e., anyone who makes more than $400 per year and files a federal income tax return.

So this category is almost entirely made up of people who work part-time. People with paper routes; people who baby-sit or do part-time day car from their homes; people who deliver pizzas a couple nights a week; teachers who have retired but continue to tutor; Christmas part-time help; college students with summer jobs at the beach or a summer camp;... This list goes on and on.

(*$400 is the amount from about 8 years ago when my wife tutored part-time, the IRS may have since raised the dollar amount needed for reportiing.)

At one time, you had to file if you made more the $3,300.00 it was increased to $3,600.00.

I don't know what it is now.

robots don't complain, smoke, text, show up late, take phone calls, have their screw off friends show up for free food, they don't come to work hungover, they aren't counting their hours till they qualify for unemployment. in short, once all the Beta work is in, the robots will be the norm in many unskilled positions. sounds like a "stay in school "ad

Robots break down, get viruses, have to update all the time, require maintenance, use up the electricity, and when they do break down they weigh a ton, good luck moving that thing out of the way....

"Robots break down..." So many of the (fewer) new jobs that will be created, making, installing, and maintaining robots, will all require significantly higher skill levels than the current jobs.

At least I suspect these robots are still going to need daily cleaning. That will probably still be done by humans, at least for a while...

One of the hardest jobs I ever had was working at McDonalds for two years. The people I worked with there I respect to this day. They took a hard, stressful job and made the best of it. Truly good people working very hard. If McDonalds could truly automate their stores, then they should, but I'm fairly certain that's not possible. If they can't, then they should pay those good people a livable wage. They work hard enough to deserve it. Look, we aren't going to let people starve in the streets, so we either increase the money we pay to working people or we end up with more non-working people we have to support through government programs. I know which I'd prefer.

these are entry level jobs with pay that matches.if people want a living wage they need to increase their value..........that's reality. if you want socialism, move to Venezuela and enjoy their fat lifestyle.

Nobody doing their job working for me earns less than $20 per hour, including clerical, mano de obra, etc. They either do the job expected of them or they go elsewhere; if they do the job expected of them they are worth every nickel of the $20. About one-third of hires do not make 90 days and that applies for the likes of those who can not read all the way to those who have professional degrees. Of those who eventually leave after 90 days, less than one fifth are sent away by us, mostly due to changing business conditions in our operations; the rest who leave chose to do so for whatever personal reasons.

The problem with our economy, including globally, is "What do you do with the third who go elsewhere?" Some find their niche at a living wage, but we believe most fall into the category we describe as "Statue of Liberty folks" - scraping by, with some portion of their lifetime needs subsidized by the non-"Statue of Liberty folks" of the $20 per hour caliber and beyond.

If the work ethic is almighty, we believe that instead of our directly subsidizing the "Statue of Liberty folks", we could indirectly subsidize most of them by providing real world work situations in which we subsidize the intense managerial and supervisory talent that is needed to achieve what would appear to most of us as being productive work not achievable without the intense moment by moment oversight effort. I and my associates have had no choice but to personally apply intense management on occasion with projects where the exigencies of the situation demanded our getting things done with the work force of the moment.

I think you have it - work ethic - it isn't common any more. The ones who have it will likely succeed and find work that is better paying. Those that don't are the "me" generation(s). While everyone has "rights", they usually forget they have "responsibilities".

While my people don't all get $20.00, they are paid a fair living wage (in a collective agreement) for our area, and I have very little turnover of people. When they start, they tend to stay and as long as they perform their tasks to the best of their ability to meet the "Norm" they aren't asked to leave either. Over 50% of my people have worked for me more than 10 years and the key people closer to 18 years in a business that is only 21 years old.

By looking at the jobs that exist, and the pay people get for doing those jobs, your logic of thinking that everyone can make more money if they work harder does not hold up....100 million people in this country are working in jobs that don't pay a living wage...working harder at it is not going to change anything....We can't all be managers and executives without workers, you know, the people that actually do the work....

A machine takes many parts to work, some of those parts can cost more that others, some much more, but without the smallest cheapest part the machine will not work, so in the grand scheme of things, the cheap parts are just as valuable as the most expensive ones....

Sadly the people demanding the $15/hr min. are completely off on what needs to be done in this country. We need to stop government waste and that is the only way an average wage earner will be able to support their family!
