Why can't the partial spools be used for their primary usage?

What was their primary usage?

Not really knowing the particulars,... use them to create square mesh for FRP reinforcement of concrete... but at 1mm-5mm, its still a little light

A challenge since sizes in this range are randomly generated with no consistency- Someone would have to process this to end up with desired total diameter-

Do they transmit light?

I'll say, yes they do.

OP, maybe makers of fiber optic controls for large process chemical plants or other uses to send signals/light short distances, as in automobiles?

As I read it, these are NOT the optical fibers, but the reinforcing fibers; They are probably translucent looking through sideways, but not for a very long distance along the fiber axis.

You very well may be right. I'm basing my assumption on the fact that the term E-glass is used to describe the core.

The website provided indicates length MTO which I presume is "Made to Order".

If that's the case, then why so many partial spools?

If in reality they are Cut To Order from a parent spool, then one way to reduce the eventual wastage is to have the parent spools increased in total length. If new spool length is 5 x current spool length, then wasteage will be significantly reduced.

You might be able to re-process the smaller diameters in your extruder to become cores within larger diameter extrusions. (Just like extruding a sheath onto these cores is curretly done.)

Why use thermoset? Why not change to thermoplastic that can be re-processed at up to 10% admix?

"Why use thermoset? Why not change to thermoplastic "?

http://www.neptco.com/website/neptco.nsf/sec/6.5 says:

This GRP is produced with E-glass fibers and vinylester or epoxy resin. Its high-glass transition temperature (up to 150° C) makes LIGHTLINE® ideal for high temperature environments.

yes, that a great idea for the 5mm,... maybe if you could source ferrule connecters for splice and also for the ends to keep it from delaminating.

I do not know if your are looking for as a possible additional cash flow stream or just to move it off your property.

but you may have to develop a market for it. What you are getting here is 'tongue in cheek' suggestions. Maybe even get a connection for a need.

Good luck

Can not be spliced so when runs are made the partial rolls are not used- No clue on lengths- will be sold by the pound.

Range of diameters available was listed in initial post-

I have seen cases where "plastic" rods are used as re-inforcement for concrete rather than using mesh.

I have also used therrmoplastics with HDT over 190 Deg C, so I still wonder why you are using thermoset?
